Commercial Description:
This is a full-bodied stout with plenty of roast flavor as well as hints of molasses and chocolate. Ridiculous amounts of black and caramel malts make this stout smooth, creamy, and utterly opaque.

[rerate]Wow, this beer is awesome. I really under-appreciated this beer the first time I had it in 2008. So smooth and rich in flavor. Unique chocolate and roasted malt combination. Definitely one of my new stand-by stouts.

Bottle. Dark black with a small brown head. Great looking stout. Aroma is rich roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is bitter sweet with chocolate and roasted malt. Strong in flavors with a nice smooth finish. [8.5.7.4.15]

Bottle. Black with a small tan head. Average aroma, coffee, chocolate. Flavor is a bland sweetness and mild bitterness. Smooth, little carbonation. For a stout this is very good but it tries to be an imperial as well so my judgment falls into that category. By all means a very good stout but less than unimpressive when compared to imperial stouts.

From a 12 ounce bottle brought back from NC by Margaret--Poured a deep black-brown body with a beautiful gray-brown head. Thick, roasty, nutty, complex and creamy as a stout should be. Licorice and molasses finished across the back of the tongue as this beer happily made its way down to my belly.

Pours dark black with a tight tan head. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, light coffee and burnt bitterness. Flavour is sweet in the front, big roast malt, burnt bitterness through the end that mellows as you drink. I get no hint of brewers licorice. Well brewed and well balanced but, I agree with a couple raters below. I am not as big on this stout as most people seems to be. Though it’s a very decent brew.

Bottle - Seems like this one was a little lost on me compared to other raters. Pleasant stout aroma with coffee and coco malts. The palate was an even keel and a blend that really didn’t jump out as really that outstanding. Had this in a massive tasting so will need to try again soon to get a better perspective.

12oz bottle. I have had this a few times - first chance to rate. black pour with long lasting creamy head. aroma of sweet roasted malt, coffee, molasses and caramel. a bitter-sweet chocolate and coffee taste. also light licorice. creamy medium body. dry roasty bitter finish. relatively awesome.

(Sampled 7-6-08 from 12 oz. bottle poured into shaker)- poured blacker than midnight during a heavy thunderstorm, very attractive tan head over one finger high formed and last for quite awhile, light carbonation. Aroma of bakers chocolate, heavily roasted malts, and hard coffee. Hits the mouth with double semi trailer wide body, the malt hits the tongue hard and just sits there, moderately sticky in feel, finish has a very nice taste of molasses and toffee. As heavy as this brew is, it makes it all in balance- not very easy to accomplish! I may be one of Bells harshest critics, but even I have to say this is one damn good beer!

Bottle thanks to Alobar. Pours nearly black with a dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, licorice, cocoa, and dark fruits. Taste is very similar with a great velvkety mouth feel. Medium carbonation. Very tasty.
