Roasty and smoky aroma with a pinch of coffee. Medium/full body. Flavor is again roasted with smoke and coffee, but also a hint of fruit sweetness and floral hops. Very good. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 26, 2008 Bottle pours a dark black body with a thin tan head. Aroma is coffee, sweet sugar, chocolate perfect. Very creamy beer and very complex for a 6% stout, this is the answer to the question: which local beer would you drink all the time and a lot of! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 21, 2008 [Bottle] Poured deep black with a good sized tan head. Aroma was heavy in roasted barley, along with some bittersweet chocolate, and burnt caramel. Flavor is fantastically rich, and mimics the aroma quite nicely. The sweetness of licorice root really comes through subtly, building as you drink it. I don’t know if I’d really be able to identify it if I didn’t already know it was in there. Soft bitter finish adds a great ending to this awesome beer. flatmatt (224), Northville, Michigan, USA

Aroma is roasted malts and a bit of the black licorice mentioned on the label. Taste is simply solid roasted malts and coffee, and is very nice. I can see why it’s rated among the top few "regular" stouts. Excellent. mattmc1973 (305), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 19, 2008 12 oz bottle, pours jet black with brown head, that mostly dissipated. Aroma of smoke and roasted coffee beans. Taste slightly bitter and coffee. Mouthfeel slightly creamy, but a bit more watery than I would expect, has some nice carbonation. A solid stout, though I’ve had better. nefarious (203), Clarkston, Michigan, USA

But the other day I though lets get a good stout. A huge WOW.....Wonderful aroma, chocolate, coffee and slight alcohol. Jet black. And a wonderful flavor coffee, chocolate, cream and roased malt! Sooooooo good. I know theres better out there and I have had better stouts. But after such a long break from this kind of beer....it was breath of fresh air.
