natejgood (129), Denver, Colorado, USA Jan 11, 2008 Pours pretty dark with a mocha colored head. The aroma is of roasted malt with a hint of molasses and maybe some coffee. The flavor is at first a little bitter with a strong coffee taste. It then sweetens up a little bit with some roasted flavor in the background. A very good flavor combination in this beer. This is a pretty solid beer. It has a lot of good flavor without being too heavy.
naivepegasus (143), USA Aug 29, 2008 pours black with several fingers of tan, slowly dissipating head. Really nice, softly sweet hazelnut odor. The taste is different then what you’d expect from the odor, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Taste of burnt toast starts off as it melds in with chocolate and ends with a nice, smokey aftertaste. Really solid stout travita (716), Lewisville, Texas, USA Aug 26, 2008 Black in color with a nice looking tan head. Looks inviting. Good lacing. Smell is roasty, a nutty coffee aroma, dark chocolate, some licorice. Taste is a nice roastiness, coffee, licorice, and chocolate. Almost too roasty in taste. SSSteve (1512), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 24, 2008 opaque black with sediment under a small brown head. milk chocolate and sugared coffee aroma. flavor is similar to aroma with dark black unsweetened coffee. touches of maple syrup. smooth and creamy texture. medium bodied. roasty aftertaste. is there oats in here? i’m not getting the licorice the bottle claims but thats perfectly o.k. WakeandBake (36), Greenville, Michigan, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle.Pours BLACK like oil with a medium tan head. Aroma of roast malt, coco, and coffee. This brew has a very smooth creamy falvor with notes of licorice, raisin, smoke, vanilla, coffee, and so on,and so on. I could find no fault with this stout, other than I believe it made me slightly flatulent, good stuff buddy.
Thank you to the hard working crew at Bells Fruitfly (40), , Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2008 The lacing is attractive and lasting. Aroma is one dimensional: only smoked malts, not even sweet and no evidence of hops. Yet mouthfeel is smooth and even; very heavily roasted malt and some burnt bitter chocolate combine for a warming and relaxing flavour. Finish is full and bitter. An appreciable beer.
