RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pours beautifully. Takes a bit of a firm pour to get a nice tan head (that sticks around). Totally opaque color. Mild nose. Slight malt. Touch of dust. Flavor is nice and malty, but lacks any outstanding character or flavor. I hate to hold this one up to it’s brother (Expedition Stout), but there just isn’t any unique character or depth that the Expedition Stout has. I know they are different styles, but the possibilities for both should be in the same ballpark I would imagine. There just isn’t any punch. It’s full, sure. But is it interesting? Sorry. No. It’s decent and well made, but when held against the rest, it just doesn’t keep it’s ground.
rednapx3 (25), , Isle of Man Oct 9, 2008 Nice dark color, easy going head smells a bit sweet, and musty.
What a great chocolate / bettersweet chocolate and a lite to lite mild roasted coffee lingering finish.
I like this stout because it’s poundable.
Very clean and great lingering flavor that makes you want more. KornDogg (28), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottle from my Bell’s variety pack... mmm... it had been a while since I first tried this one... deep and dark, brown foam... coffee & chocolate subtle aroma... taste of coffee, chocolate and a little sweet, maybe the molasses... I hate licorice, but this was perfect.. Don’t let the licorice description deter you from trying... Dedoulequeen07 (116), london, Greater London, England Oct 8, 2008 Bottle Chris O’s. Pours a thick dark ebony with a small off whitish head. Aroma: Rich and roasted ground coffee beans, bitter dark chocolate, slight charred carbon and alcohol. Flavour: good mothfeel that sticks to the back of your throat lingeing dark bitter choclate and coffee with some toffee and liquoirce to finish. Would prefer a little more body and creaminess but would drink again. Magic_dave6 (4012), London, Greater London, England Oct 7, 2008 Bottle at chris_o’s pre beerexposed tasting. Alround rating: Roasty, thin, not really much going on, pritty boring stuff and not really my style. I cannot see for the life of me how this could get such a high rating. DA (2474), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Oct 6, 2008 Delicious stout, big chocolate flavor up front, roasty and smooth, with a dry bitter chocolate finish. Slight scent of licorice, lingering coffee notes in the finish. Pours black with a smooth brown head. Just really well built in every way.
