ksurkin (56), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Apr 7, 2008 Updated: Apr 12, 2008 pours nearly jet black, not as thick as the expedition, with a thin brown head andvery little carbonation. aroma is all stout with roasted nuts, coffee, and honestly, some black olive notes (actually licorice) along with chocolate malt. flavor is wonderful. starts off with roasted malt and quickly turns to a full on coffee flavor with a great lingering bitterness. i agree with the last rater about the "burnt dark chocolate". almost perfectly describes the atertaste. amazed at how bells makes two different, yet two great stouts with this and the expedition.
Lubiere (3256), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Sep 6, 2008 A dark dark stout with a thin moka head, and big chunks at the bottom. A nice bitter chocolate malt, cream, light hops, figs, and dried fruits. In mouth, a good moka chocolate, cold coffee, roasted bitterness, a bit of burned notes. A good pleasing stout. Beer_Hawk (705), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Sep 5, 2008 Bottle; batch 7648. Pours black with a creamy tan head that settles to a light layer & ring and left behind good lacing. Aromas of milk chocolate, coffee, and a slight roast. The flavor is much the same but with the roast standing out much more. Full body, smooth, and a coffee and roast aftertaste. Very nice Stout!! mcmd (49), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Sep 5, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a half finger beige head. Smells are roasted malt, dark chocolate, toffee, caramel. Flavor is sweet roasted malt and hops up front with a burnt coffee and bitter dark chocolate finish. Seemed a little thin for a stout, almost the consistency of a porter. Great beer nonetheless. DTM (373), Winters, California, USA Sep 2, 2008 Bottle aquired in trade from StFun. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Roasted malt flavor with a hint of coffee. Smooth and even on the palate. Just a tad thin or I would have thought it was an imperial stout. An overall great brew. timfoolery (344), California, USA Sep 1, 2008 From STFun trade. This stout was excellent. For a straight stout, it exhibited more maltiness, balance, and consistent flavor than most (if not all) I’ve had. Nice sized head and lacing. The carmel and coffee flavors and smells were apparent.
