ebrowner88 (113), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Apr 6, 2008 pour out of bottle black with a 1 finger beige head. Beautiful, creamy froth that disapates way slow. Thick lace. Smells of sweet espresso and nuts. Sweet caramel cream for an instant then a wide coffee and roasty hoppy flavor. Dryer then I expected. Very dark roasted mocha finish and more dryness and alcahol. (in a very good way) Like most of their beers, this is truly crafted well. You could drink this a few times and, i think, and pick up different nuances each time. I have already edited this rating twice since i opened the bottle.
jfm (1560), Holbęk, Denmark Jul 15, 2008 Bottle. Pleasant roasted malt aroma with a hint of chocolate and coffee. Black body with a small brown head. Sweet pleasant roasted body with roasted or almost burned caramel and chocolate notes with a hint of coffee. Sweet chocolate palate. Very nice. Pawola22 (31), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jul 12, 2008 12 oz bottle from John’s Grocery.
Aroma: Full of chocolate malts and roasty. VERY roasty.
Appearance: Very dark and black. Dark tan head, not very big, but pretty bubbly and dissipates quickly leaving a creamy and lacy swirl. Beautiful lace, actually.
Flavor: Chocolate, mocha, roasty aftertaste. Hint of black licorice, burnt malt and toffee.
Palate: Medium body, great roast flavor. Carbonation brings the bitter flavor out well towards the end. Dry finish and silky smooth.
Overall: Awesome stout! Love to have more. Smooth and not overpowering. Complex flavors and great dry, bitter finish. Very balanced and delicious. ForeverNovice (2), , Minnesota, USA does not count Jul 11, 2008 I came in with high expectation, and found them slightly dashed. Excellently thick viscosity, deep, dark color and a nice head that dissolves after a couple minutes. I have no complaints about the taste, but I didn’t experience any of the complexity other tasters here have described. All I got was a pleasantly bitter, creamy, beer flavor. Quite good, but there are better options. CheersBabe (49), USA Jul 9, 2008 Brewers licorice anyone? This beer is as dark as used motor oil and drinks as thick. For fans of dark stouts (not that Guinness water shit) this is a beer that you should try. Awesome beer. j_b (715), Rochester, New York, USA Jul 9, 2008 When I saw this poured out, I had to say ’wow’! Very dark, thick reddish brown head, soapy notes in aroma along with chocolate. Palate is neither sweet or dry, I guess that’s why they call it a stout, weird to me, used to sweet or dry. It’s nutty, with some coffee notes and a bit of hops, but overall pretty mild. Well the longer your drink it the less mild it seems. Creamy feel. Drank this fairly warm. Just had it in the fridge about 1/2 hour.
