JoeMcPhee (3807), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 17, 2008 batch 7648... don’t remember where I got this, but thanks to whoever sent it to me. Pitch black beer with a thick sticky tan head. Aroma is frickin’ awesome. Rich sweet cocoa and dark chocolate. Herbal, slightly smokey with a kiss of black licorice. Flavour matches the aroma in intensity and balance. Soft dark chocolate, licorice and cocoa. Soft sticky sweetness, but completely without any cloyingness. So rich and decadent that it’s hard to imagine that I can’t get another easily. Soft roasty bitterness. Fudgey and delicious. Just an incredible beer.
Magic_dave6 (4003), London, Greater London, England Oct 7, 2008 Bottle at chris_o’s pre beerexposed tasting. Alround rating: Roasty, thin, not really much going on, pritty boring stuff and not really my style. I cannot see for the life of me how this could get such a high rating. DA (2468), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Oct 6, 2008 Delicious stout, big chocolate flavor up front, roasty and smooth, with a dry bitter chocolate finish. Slight scent of licorice, lingering coffee notes in the finish. Pours black with a smooth brown head. Just really well built in every way. thewolf (3959), Kolding, Denmark Oct 2, 2008 Bottle @ Chris_o’s Pre-Beer Exposed Tasting, September 2008.
Pours impressively black with a small, creamy, staying, brown head. Sweet aroma, lots of chocolate and coffee. Low carbonation, wonderful, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is impeccably elegant. Sweet, light dryness, coffee, cocoa. Stunningly balanced and only 6 %. Great. lightning9191 (73), Christiansburg, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours jet black with a tan head. The aroma is big coffee. The flavor is largely coffee, with some background chocolate notes. It has a heavy body with low-medium carbonation. This a delicious stout! It is like espresso beer. chimp_lechamp (372), freehold, New Jersey, USA Sep 28, 2008 tap at dos segundos- pours black withf rothy foamy head. nose is light taste is roasty burnt toast, burnt coffee, so roasted. maybe a bit one sided. it is probably the roastedest beer i’ve ever had. it is bitter from the roast. it is a strong taste. dont know if paired well with the nachos either.
