darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 7, 2008 12oz bottle. cloudy orange or yellow color - depending how you look at it. with small white head. smells yeasty with slight citrus and wheat. tastes like total cereal - the wheat obviously. also some hops, light citrus and some spices. this rates pretty highly within my wheat ale experience. a good baseline for what I expect out of the style. BrewDad (2363), Olympia, Washington, USA Aug 5, 2008 12oz Bottle - Trade - Daknole
Aroma – Nice wheat aroma with a light hops backing with a slight fruitiness in the aroma also.
Appearance – Amber in Color, Thick head and hazy.
Flavor – Nice German malt build. Lots of good hops adding to the fruitiness of the beer.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, Wheaty sediment texture with a dry finish.
Overall – A great summer beer with a good use of hops I can see why this is so well liked. Very good beer and very well brewed.
shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA Aug 5, 2008 A real summertime classic. This is probably one of the best selling micros at my works, so I figured I might as well finally rate it. It is definitely awesome on a far too humid, 90 degree summer day. Pours with a small, short-lived foamy head and emits a bright orange color that shines just like the sun on the label, and with just as much character. Very hazy, with some sediment. The aroma is fresh, orangey, grassy, and stickly sweet, with apparent coriander, malted and un-malted wheat, and a defining peppery yeast smell. The beer has an estery, energetic mouthfeel; tangy, spicy overtones, and is overall very easy to drink, making it equally popular with beer geeks and the occasionaly craft beer drinker. Mandarin oranges, lemon peel, doughy bread, and pumpernickel all make an appearance, as well as the shyest, most restrained hop bitterness to give this fresh summer libation a clean, crisp and exciting finish.
riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle from yem25 via Secret Santa. Thanks man. Pours a nice orange yellow with sediment and a decent head. A nice vibrant looking wheat ale. Aromas of soft sweet wheat and some softer citrus/tangerines and apricots. Soft wheat, pleasant juicy sweetness, light tangerine and apricot in the flavors. A bit of a crisp finish. Soft body, smooth and velvety. Perfect for what it is. This is an amazing wheat ale. I want more of this stuff. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Aug 5, 2008 Pours a murky Amber color. Small white head that goes away rather quick. Nice wheat and sweetness taste. Mild taste of citrus. Much better than most wheat beers. Great beer for those pants-free summer days. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 4, 2008 Well this is it, probably about as good as you are going to get for a wheat beer. I love gumbalhead but this is just way bigger. Looks way better too. Much thicker and very cloudy. The taste is much more breadsy and avoids the spicy citrusy stuff. Very soft feel. Bells is going to sell a heckuvaot of this before the summer closes in chicago... RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Aug 3, 2008 Great summertime beer. Yellow-amber color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet with faint hints of orange and honey. Taste is very drinkable and delicious and is an upgrade on most wheat beers I’ve tried. Definately a session beer. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 1, 2008 Bottle from my girlfriend after visiting Michigan: Very cloudy honey colored pour with not clarity at all and a dense creamy white head. Crisp bright aroma. Wheaty, fruity, light grains, honey soaked lemon, peppery phenolics and lemon grass. Creamy and substantial feel- yet it’s refreshing. Creamy wheat malt flavors with a touch of grain, some lemon grass and a note of herbal honey and late zesty smooth grassy bitterness to make it insanely drinkable. Great summer beer!
