milewide (609), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Aug 28, 2006 Sour, rather than bitter---which I liked. Nice dark black color. Not much aroma to my nose. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 27, 2006 Pours a jet black color with a small amount of foamy tan head. Aroma is sweet molases, roasted barley, brown sugared fruit. Flavor is pretty light for the abv, creamy smooth sweet caramel mocha. Overall, i liked. drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Aug 25, 2006 Nice stout, like all of Bell’s stouts. The "rye" issue doesn’t hit home for me here. It mostly keeps its basic stout style and taste. A bit sweet as well. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Aug 25, 2006 Bottle. Pours dark red brown-black with tan head. Aroma is bitter coffee, caramel, and rye. Flavor is coffee, rye, molasses, caramel, and very dry. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Aug 24, 2006 Bottle. Poured an opaque dark brown that appeared black in the glass. Head was minimal. A strong roast scent with a subdued sweetness, the rye was evident. Nice balanced flavor of roasted malt with like the aroma, a hint of sweetness and minimal bitterness. A bit watery, but with a pleasant fizzle to this smooth brew. Tasty. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 24, 2006 Black, virtually no head. Big rye bread/toast aroma, with a note of coffee in the background. Rye bread, chocolate, a touch of smoke, perhaps a touch of whiskey. Surprisingly clean, and lighter bodied than i expected, which seem to work well here. Thanks to Springslicker for this one! Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Aug 21, 2006 Pretty tasty stout here. Very distinctly Bell’s.......has similar malt character to Kalamazoo. TheOrange (405), Kent, Ohio, USA Aug 19, 2006 Dark Black poor, with little to no tannish head. The aroma is dominated by carmalized malt. Very small/slight nose, very mild malts are the peek of the flavor. There is very little carbonation, which is very proper. Over all, a good standard stout, there are better, and there are much worse. Very easy to drink.
