lukin013 (211), Columbia, Maryland, USA Aug 15, 2006 Black pour with medium-sized tan head than dissipates quickly with no lacing. The aroma is entirely.... hmmmmm..... rye toast (talk about a beer that smells exactly as you would expect). Flavor is of (you guessed it) rye bread with hints of milk chocolate and some roastiness. Great chewy, bread-like texture. Wonderfully unique stout. Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 15, 2006 Deep, dark brown. Chewy-soft texture; light and fluffy, in a way. Notes of sweet cream, cereal, wheat-like grains, mild coffee, faint smoky wood and pinch of chocolate. Slight sourness in the finish. Dryish, mildly bitter finish. All right. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 11, 2006 Black body with a quickly fading small creamy head. Nutty, grainy aroma with extremely mild notes of roast. Lightly nutty flavour with hints of mocha and mild roast. Malty tang in the finish. Average palate is really to thin for a stout but seems to be sort of a appropriate here. Interesting. 7/3/7/3/14-15 jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Aug 7, 2006 Pours black with ruby edges and a quickly fading light brown head. Mocha, smoke along with a sour/ashy character in the nose. Tasty - sweet caramel, roasted malt, chocolate, mocha, light smoke and a pleasant slight touch of sourness. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Pretty good stuff. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 2, 2006 Bottle. Deep pitch black, small tan’ish head. Interesting aroma of grains, malt, smoke and rich dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick but at the same time tingly. Taste is nice - rich stout, rye like grains, sweetness, some smokiness, maybe some hops at the end. A rich tasty stout and another winner from Bells. fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA Jul 31, 2006 Stoutesque in a stout-like fashion with stoutish elements and stoutful presence carrying for a stoutment for mankind. Hell, I did enjoy this, but can say with all honesty that I was doing that thing with my head that dogs do when they seem confused, tilting it from side to side and furrowing my brow. Also can’t recal who sent this in trade - shadey? Okay, let me piss off everybody with a lame rating and bad ending ....
(DID like it, that CAN be said) fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jul 27, 2006 12 oz bottle thanks to santa. Black pour with a small head. Aromas were roasty with just a tuch of that chocolate/coffee expected. Flavors were very roasted malt, with a touch of burnt that made me think porter. Some rye flavor in the malt. Pretty good JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 26, 2006 12 oz bottle Thanks OhioDad. Deep brown-black beer with a tan head that quickly fades back. Great herbal aroma, underlying a deep rich dark chocolate nose. Chicory and light roast in the aroma. Flavour is really fantastic, dark chocolate, toast and roast. Big slick mouthfeel and a great rye spiciness. The heavy rye mintiness works very well with all of the dark chocolate. Earthy hoppiness with a hint of pine as well. I’m a huge sucker for rye and this doesn’t disappoint. Great balance, great maltiness, great beer with a touch of coffee through the finish. Awesome.
