JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 26, 2006 12 oz bottle Thanks OhioDad. Deep brown-black beer with a tan head that quickly fades back. Great herbal aroma, underlying a deep rich dark chocolate nose. Chicory and light roast in the aroma. Flavour is really fantastic, dark chocolate, toast and roast. Big slick mouthfeel and a great rye spiciness. The heavy rye mintiness works very well with all of the dark chocolate. Earthy hoppiness with a hint of pine as well. I’m a huge sucker for rye and this doesn’t disappoint. Great balance, great maltiness, great beer with a touch of coffee through the finish. Awesome. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Jul 26, 2006 Pours black thin tan head. Great sweet chocolate flavor, followed by the roasted barley, slight coffee, but mainly a great sweet milk chocolate taste, great beer. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA Jul 24, 2006 Pours black with little head. Aroma is of spicy rye, dark roast, some slighlty biscuity malt in equal proportions. Flavor is a somewhat sharp roast, spicy rye, a nice full maltiness, and a bit of watery coffee. Aftertaste is long mix of above but with a much more rounded roast. Medium-full body. The palate is watery yet at the same time slightly syrupy. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jul 17, 2006 bottle. near pitch black pour with thin tan tiny bubble head. great fruit and hops in the aroma with malt and sweet chocolate. Very crisp. a mild/medium body. chocolate lingers in the aftertaste. mild coffee. I taste what I imagine is rye but I couldnt say for sure. This is a very easy drinking stout. AlabastorJones (762), San Francisco, California, USA Jul 15, 2006 black body with no head, roasty nose, sweet vanilla highlights, mildly bitter, chocolate and a pinch of Larry’s own eccentric juices barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA Jul 11, 2006 12 oz. bottle, batch 7235. nothing spectacular yet very drinkable and enjoyable. mild flavors of chocolate, rye, coffee and some oak. low carbonation with a spicey note on the finish. a good summertime stout. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 7, 2006 Updated: Jul 26, 2006Liked carbonation and mouth feel despite being a bit thin. Flavor was rather mediocre. Sourness can be a plus at times when don right but this doesn’t really achieve that. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Jul 5, 2006 (12oz bottle) Small brown head that dissipates fairly quickly, atop a brown-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, nutty, coffee, rye, some bittersweet chocolate. Taste is medium sweet, coffee with cream, some nutty, light salty, lactic sourness. Creamy medium body.
