CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Apr 5, 2006 Pours extremely dark...black unless you hold it up to light...not much head at all. Aroma is dominant coffee. Taste is very fruity...very strange, but I like it. Chocolate, malt, and some bittering hops...no coffee whatsoever in the flavor. Mouthfeel is very very light bodied. This is kind of a strange tasting stout...unique...and I dig it. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Apr 5, 2006 Bottled sample. Almost black in colour with medium carbonation. Malty aroma with suggestions of coffee, milk chocolate, molasses and berry fruit. Flavor wise, the milk chocolate aspect becomes dominant, but some and spicy rye notes also become aparent along with other toasted grain nuances. Huge mouthfeel to this one. Very enjoyable, but perhaps a shade less forcefull than the Kalamazoo stout. TChrome (1295), Bedford, Texas, USA Apr 4, 2006 Beer pours dark brown with a tan colored head that is moderately retained. Aroma is coffee and cream with some rye. Flavor is likewise. Very nice coffee flavor with some rye flavor as well. Enjoyable. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 3, 2006 Pours out like water, its dark with little head. Smells like coffee and rye bread. watery lacing. It tastes like a water down coffee. Oatmeal bitterness at the end. Its still ok but not one of my favorite beers from one of my top 5 breweries. Hollywoodt (174), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Apr 2, 2006 Batch 7235. Poured a dark brown without much of a head. There really wasn’t much of an aroma to this. The little that was there was dark malt and maybe a hint of coffee. The flavor was of rye, but was kind of sour. Don’t know if I got a bad one, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with this beer. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Apr 2, 2006 Bottled, Batch #7235. Poured a slightly-hazy deep garnet/brown with a tall, somewhat loose cap of caramel headage... low/medium viscocity. Nose was of mildly roasted milk chocolate, coffee beans with a citrus twist to ’em, grass, and darker, rye-inspired spicing. Flavor was of dark, roasty malts (grainy milk chocolate & mild coffee), citrus bitterness, and spicy rye. Medium-bodied with a light, somewhat refreshing aire to it. Grainy roasted chocolate and rye at the finish. Another tasty stout from the masters. brewblackhole (1366), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Apr 1, 2006 Thanks to KingpinIPA for the bottle. Very distinctive roasted malt and roasted coffeebeans aroma, dark black small head color, very smooth texture coffee chocolate roasted malt taste, medium bitterness, mild sweetness, tastes like oatmeal in the aftertaste, guess that must be the rye I liked it a lot frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Apr 1, 2006 Pours a deep, dark, burgundy/brown with a fluffy tan head that collapses quickly. Bitter aroma with prominent rye above well-roasted malts and burnt coffee. Thinly syruped mouthfeel carries a bittersweet flavor. Light carbonation adds a lift to the seriousness of the bitter character. Worth further investigation.
