Commercial Description:
An abundance of rye grains provide a spicy twist to otherwise traditional stout flavors. A unique approach to an entirely new style of stout.

Light roasted nose, opaque brown color, low foamy head. Chocolate malt, wheat in the middle, sherry flavors too. Light coffee end. Thinish. Very nice balance and different overall.

2002, consumed summer ’07 Dark brown body with samll whispy tan head. The aroma is milk chocolate, light oxidation, rye and berries. The flavor is milk chocolate, toffee, light cherry, lightly spicey rye and a touch of sherry. Medium body is very soft with light carbonation. This has held up very well. 9/3/8/4/16 4.0

Re-release versionBlack body with small tan head. Quickly fading. The aroma is freshly roasted rye bread, chocolate, molases and a touch of espresso. The flavor is rich and roasted, lots of rye, molases, a bit of smoke, chocolate. The finish is bitter and slightly acidic, mouthfeel is thick and creamy, though carbonation is a touch too high. 8/4/8/4/15 3.9

Deep and rich black pour with a thin tan head. Rye oats and dark chocolate aroma. Light coffee notes as well. Oat grains, mildly roasted coffee, and chocolate flavors. Dry and watery finish. Nicely balanced and pleasant.

Very dark brown, small tan head that faded quickly leaving nothing behind. The aroma was nicely roasty with a slight grainy side and a bit of a coffee and maybe chocolate side coming through as well.Nice roasty flavor with a smooth feel and some chocolate and mild burnt side coming through towards the middle and end.The brew finishes up with a nice bitterness and long flavor of roast as well that hangs on the pallate.Very nice brew that goes down smooth and with plenty of well balanced flavor.Well worth trying again.

12oz. bottle. Opaque brown-black with a thin light tan head. Dark chocolate, some roastiness, and a grainy spiciness. Weak coffee, some chocolate flavors. Mild roastiness and hints of rye in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium light, somewhat dry.

Black with a little head on top. Light band aid nose. Smokey and caramel malt taste. Light aftertaste. Decent!

This disappointed me. The dark brown body was capped with a short-lived tan head. The aroma was weak Nutella, citrus zest, coffee, but little rye. Medium bodied and smooth. The flavor was a tad too bitter. Just didn’t do it for me, relatively speaking.

Batch 7235: Pours a fairly viscous opaque with a lightly-lacing tan head. Aroma of earthy rye and some faintly burnt black malt. Body starts semi-sweet with a touch of caramel malty flavor, lots of toasty rye and a lingering earthy roasted finish with hints of smoke. An interesting and enjoyable stout. I have a old bottle of this that I’ll have to try soon.
