Commercial Description:
An abundance of rye grains provide a spicy twist to otherwise traditional stout flavors. A unique approach to an entirely new style of stout.

12oz bottle pours black with a cascading creamy tan head that stays pretty well and laces well on the glass. Aromas of roasted almost burnt malt and coffee. Flavor is nice roasted malts as well. Dark roasted coffee comes through as well also just touch of toffee. Palate is smooth and creamy. Medium bodied. Amazingly drinkable. Would work well as an everyday stout.. Bells continues to impress me..

Poured a dark brown to black with a foamy tan to brown head. Aromas were somewhat mild to me nothing huge jumping out at me mild roasted mal nd rye with a light scent of toffee. flavor had a unique flavor beyond the malt and sweet flavor it was almost a vegetable flavor to it that I could not finger. Not much spice there as it is described..

Medium head that sticks around for a little while, with clinging lace. See through black in color. Sweet roasty rye malts on the nose with hints of dough and toffee. Mouthfeel is a little light, not a big beer but one I could definatly session. Nice dry finish.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with ClarkVV (thanks!). Poured a dark black, with red edges, and an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of rye, roasted malts, bread, and some dark fruits. Tastes of bread, chocolate, some coffee, rye, roasted malts, caramel, and dark fruits. I found the aromas to be on the stronger side compared to the tastes (product of the age?). Body was also a little on the thin side. Lacing left on the glass. Overall all a very good beer that I’m glad I had the chance to enjoy!

Original 12 oz. Bottle at the Michigan House - Calumet, MI. I sit down at the bar, with the coolers of beer on the floor, beneath the counter in front of me and immeadiately I spot the ghostly label of this bottle. I’m blown away that this is still available. Pours a pitch black with a rime of whitish. A little salt and sea aroma, with a rich burst of cream and mellowed hops in alcohol. Some root beer and brandy shine through, with a hint of flowers. Flavor starts as a static salt and roasted coffee, quite watery, but then as the beer moves across the tounge and warms, it explodes into a fury of unencumbered chocolate and fresh ground espresso. Heavily depressed dark chocolate beans erupt into a glowing mouthful of rich notes mingling with light warming alcohols and gentle aged fruit notes. Pretty incredible profile for a beer that’s been sitting at a bar for a few years. Finishes fantastically with fresh coffee and toast. Palate is sweet, but peculiar. It starts like salt water, but then morphs into this hard-to-describe panacea of textures with some oily coating properties and a hint of dryness. Leaves the palate feeling refreshed, but also wanting and tasting more. Re-rate On tap at the Michigan House - Calumet, MI I’ve now had the fresh batch on. More sweetness and caramel, with a dusky and light must fruit and grain, with a touch of woody leather on the tongue. Toothy grain. Some creamy bourben notes., with a different edge. Rye really adds a nice level of complexity.

Another review that I accidentally deleted and am having to rewrite.

Thanks to some awesome RateBeerian; over time I have forgotten which, for sending me this tantalizingly delicious beer!
Pours a foggy ink black body and a bountiful tall and resilient tan head. The aroma is bursting with chocolate and toffee malts. There was a note of rye bread there in the finish.. a kind of sunflower seed oily and nutty rendering. The flavor also brought coco and toffee, some date and brown sugars, walnut, a touch of vanilla, and a yeasty, beady tartness in the finish, almost lactic. The palate was chewy and gritty in some places… as Bell’s beers tend to have a decent amount of sediment.
Time has treated this increasingly rare beer rather nicely… I am a lucky man indeed!

Hazy brown stout. No head. Quite thin body and a way too sour finish for a stout. Lacks power and sweetness.

Dark brown colored, small tan head. Ordinary mild creamy chocolaty aroma. Sour roasted malt flavor with coffee notes. Dry and dusty and not that good.
