href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?U target=blank>OhioDad, thanks Scott. Black in colour, rich creamy beige head, good retention, great lacing. The aroma is smoky, very light traces of rye bread, dark chocolate. The flavour is of dark chocolate, black coffee, some smoke, dark rye bread, great roast. Creamy bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a moderate bitterness, chalky. Very nice all-round beer, quite enjoyable.

Aroma is kinda odd. Smells like a can of Vienna sausages. Wierd huh? Rye maybe? Has a light roasted flavor. Smooth medium body. Not bad. Thanks Scott. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA

Finally, this beer arrived in the St Louis area. dark brown with a small very tight kacki head. chocolate, hazelnut, burnt malt (black patent) and some spicy caracter akin to dark pumpernickel bread, chocolate, light char, anise dominate the flavors. body is a little on the light side, but the flavors are well distributed. Could be a porter to alot of people, at least body and appearance wise. finish is chocolate and light roast. I definately like it, but from what people have told me, its not as good as when it was produced 4-5 years ago. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Aromas were roasty with just a tuch of that chocolate/coffee expected. Flavors were very roasted malt, with a touch of burnt that made me think porter. Some rye flavor in the malt. Pretty good phishpond417 (1946), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Awesome stout from Bell’s. Pours a dark black with just a thin creamy layer of froth. Alcohol and coffee grounds is noticeable on the nose. Taste is really unique, has a dryness present all throughout the beer. Roasted and toasted, dark chocolate, and very earthy. A really cool beer, and an interesting take on the style."
