Caramel, mocha, and roast malts are most prevelant in the nose. Very nice nose. Mocha flavors, what I guess is rye (I don't like rye,) and some more happy roastiness. Medium bodied with an alcohol finish. Interesting stout. thegreenrooster (1841), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 17, 2006 Pour is a complete black with a small tan head. Aroma is hard to pick up but I do get some chocolate and coffee. Flavor is a bit weak for a stout but again there are some dark chocolate and coffe notes. Not the best by bells. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 23, 2003 Bottle, thanks to Marinaro500 for this one. Pours dark brown, opaque and with a small tan head. Aroma is rich and full, dark roasted malts, soured grains and bitter coffee. Flavor is malts, bitter chocolate, espresso and a puckeringly sour finish. Medium full body and little carbonation. A nice brew but the rye is not my favorite style. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA

Sharp as a New York Style Cheddar on the tounge...an absolutley stinging gustatory experience. I loved it! Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 18, 2006 Bottle. Opaque body with no head, just a patchy ring of bubbles. Nose-some smoke, feed store. Taste-lightly lactic, smoke, rye, seltzer, chalky. malted milk balls, slightly sour aftertaste. There is a sourness in the nose and taste that is not pleasant. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 13, 2006 This disappointed me. The dark brown body was capped with a short-lived tan head. The aroma was weak Nutella, citrus zest, coffee, but little rye. Medium bodied and smooth. The flavor was a tad too bitter. Just didn’t do it for me, relatively speaking. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 28, 2006 Bottle from Pailhead, batch 7234 or so. Black colored, perhaps a touch of light passes through. Thin tan head barely has the gumption to form and then fades quickly to an interrupted ring at the edge of the glass. Modest lacing is left behind. Aroma is full of rye and modestly spicey. A dose of roasted grain blends fairly nicely in the nose. Medium bodied, slightly thin at times. Modest carbonation. Roasty chocolate rye bread is my take on flavor. Blended well the slight peppery rye balances out well with the deeper roasted grain and hops used. Decent, certainly worth drinking again. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 7, 2006 Bottle from Party Source. Pours dark brown with diminishing off white head. Aroma of rye bread and dark roasted malt. Flavor of dark roasted malt, rye, vanilla, all nicely blended. A tad thin in the body, but not in a detrimental way. Some sweet rye bread comes out in the bitter finish, that is peppery on the sides of the tongue. Interesting beer.
