| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 23, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown (deep copper when held to a light) with a small creamy beige head. The aroma was sweet with notes of caramel and dark chocolate, black coffee, and rye. The flavor is roasted malts, rye, coffee at times, and milk chocolate. This is not big in any way. Medium bodied with a creamy smooth mouthfeel. Enjoyable, I’m glad to see they are making this again. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

12 oz bottle from Ohiodad(thanks!).Pours a near black with a small tan head. Nose is of roasted coffee and rye. That is pretty much the taste along with some lactose and possibly some oats. Well carbonated fizzy finish. The rye is actually fairly subdued. Thin bodied and sessionable. No alcohol detected. Nice easy drinking stout. Bells seems to never do wrong. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 29, 2007 Very dark brown pour with a substantial and steady brown head. Lacing nonexistent. Aroma is nutty malts, coffee and toffee, spicy rye, peppery with bittersweet chocolate and mild earthy hops. Flavor is somewhat spicy and dissimilar to the aroma. Noted are heavy doses of rye and caramel, along with mild chocolate, some citrus fruit and buttery malts. Palate is full and unbalanced, spiciness intruding upon the pleasantries. Finishes aggressive and salty/spicy, short-lived as well. This has an underlying flavor that is nice, but confusing. I usually associate the addition of rye to a beer with producing a creamier mouthfeel and I’m just not getting that here as much as I’d like. My least favorite of many Bell’s stouts sampled. Well, this is far better than I had expected. The rye was no where near what one could plan on getting in rye bread. Flavor has a small spicy bite at first, then fades away for a nice smooth finish. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

I had this on tap at the brewery. The stout wasn’t as dark in color as you might expect. Light flavor that doesn’t stay with you as much. I think it would be a great beer for people just beginning to drink Stouts...or if you want something not quite as heavy.
