| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2006 Pours deep black with a large building ddark tan head. The aroma is full; malty and rye with a dry character. It is a very nice and distinct aroma profile. There is quite a bit of sweetness from the malt. Creamy and full, a pincy of a sharp rye. Definately a bready malt flavor, very clean and with a bit of a clean chocolate and chalky finish. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2006 Pours black with little head. Aroma is of spicy rye, dark roast, some slighlty biscuity malt in equal proportions. Flavor is a somewhat sharp roast, spicy rye, a nice full maltiness, and a bit of watery coffee. Aftertaste is long mix of above but with a much more rounded roast. Medium-full body. The palate is watery yet at the same time slightly syrupy. BVery (603), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 30, 2009 On tap at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle, IL. and served to a Bell’s shaker. The color was a murky, dark brown with a diminishing, light tan, tiny bubbled, foam head and some curtains and spots of lacing. The aroma was roasty, coffee, and subtle hints of smoke and char. The flavor added to the aroma notes a touch of molasses and caramelly sweetness, low hop bitterness, and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. A very presentable stout. bdigital (591), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 22, 2007 ’06 Bottle: Pours a dark brownish-black color with a minimal tan head. Has a strange earthy aroma that almost smells like wet weeds. As this warmed it improved in aroma and the rye aspects come through along with some bold malt. Thin bodied, chocolate malt taste with almost none of the rye characteristics. Not too impressed with this, although drinkable. phaleslu (573), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 20, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Ludlow Wines. Pours very dark brown, near black, with a tny tan head that fades immediately and leaves a thin ring around the edge. The aroma isn’t strong, but what’s there is mostly rye, with notes of coffee, roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, and figs. Flavor is roasty, not much different but certainly stronger than the aroma, with notes of rye, roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, nuts, smoke, and dark fruits. Medium bodied and smooth, with not enough carbonation to keep it from feeling flat on the palate. Light, roasty finish. Okay, but overrated- this brewery makes a lot better stouts.
