| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 27, 2001 The rye adds a deep earthy aroma to the nose, the color is black and the head voluminous, beige in color, the lace is thick upon the glass. Start is grainy, the middle moderate as is the carbonation, the finish dry and some what hop spicy. Excellent beer, another winner in my eyes. puzzl (2649), New York, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | May 11, 2006 Glad I finally got to try this one. Pitch black pour with a nice though small brown head. Aroma is strongly rye, bready, with nice stouty undertones. There is a lot of rye in the flavor, too, maybe too much so, that cover up the roastiness. Tastes a little "cold," for lack of a better term. Rich and creamy palate. I always love experimental brews like this. This one has a really unique taste. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 12, 2005 Dark brown colored, small tan head. Ordinary mild creamy chocolaty aroma. Sour roasted malt flavor with coffee notes. Dry and dusty and not that good. 5000 (2634), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 27, 2006 Bottle: Black coffee in color, brownish edges, small beige spritzy head, dies quickly, sparce lacing. Heavily roasted malts on the nose, slight campfire, but also a bit of pasture. Balance of milk sugar sweetness, subtle hop bite, softly roasted malts, and grains on the tongue. Moderate body, mouthfeel is rather thin tho. Seems more of a sweet Porter or Dark Ale than a Stout. Somewhat dry/chalky finish. Fairly average, cross between weak Milk Stout and a Rye Ale. Thanks goes out to Styles for the bottles!

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2006 Bottle. Deep pitch black, small tan’ish head. Interesting aroma of grains, malt, smoke and rich dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick but at the same time tingly. Taste is nice - rich stout, rye like grains, sweetness, some smokiness, maybe some hops at the end. A rich tasty stout and another winner from Bells. Pailhead (2609), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 18, 2006 Updated: Jun 28, 2006Bottle: Aroma has lots of coffee and roasted grain along with a moderate chocolate balance. Pours a dark brown with a tan head that fades quickly. Moderate chocolate up front quickly fades to a point where there is no taste at all for an instant and then light rye and coffee appear in the finish and then those flavors quickly disappear. Not all that flavorful. Nice creamy smooth mouthfeel. 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 1, 2006 The beer pours to a black body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is quite vibrant and jumps out of the glass. Malty chocolate, rye bread, very unique and spicy. The flavor is a chocolatey dry stout that has some interesting spicyness to it. Glad to see that Bell’s brought this one back. The palate is drying, medium bodied, roasty.
