Thanks to some awesome RateBeerian; over time I have forgotten which, for sending me this tantalizingly delicious beer!
Pours a foggy ink black body and a bountiful tall and resilient tan head. The aroma is bursting with chocolate and toffee malts. There was a note of rye bread there in the finish.. a kind of sunflower seed oily and nutty rendering. The flavor also brought coco and toffee, some date and brown sugars, walnut, a touch of vanilla, and a yeasty, beady tartness in the finish, almost lactic. The palate was chewy and gritty in some places… as Bell’s beers tend to have a decent amount of sediment.
Time has treated this increasingly rare beer rather nicely… I am a lucky man indeed! clingman71 (254), Centerville, Ohio, USA

Aroma is very roasty and grainy, a little spice and coffee. Flavor is much like the aroma, but with the spice a little more pronounced. This has an excellent mouthfeel for only 6.7%, not thin like so many stouts in this % range. I would absolutely love to see Bell’s make an Imperial version of this beer. Although it didn’t wow me, it is very enjoyable nonetheless. thehoff (569), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2004 Very dark like all Bells Stouts. Really no head though. Smells a little sour, slight coffee, chocolate. Tastes of coffee and chocolate but has sort of a rainwater taste, like early spring rain with too much iron or something in it. There is a sourness as well. Nice warming beer but not quite as good as Bells other stouts. Still great though. tomxcs (315), Golden, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 25, 2006 Pours dark, dark brown with a reddish tint; pinkish-reddish-brownish head. Aromas of chocolate and earthy, piney hops. Rich, spicy, sweet-sour coffee and earthy hop flavors with a thin, fairly uncarbonated, smooth body. I’m glad I tried this one -- a good experiment by Bells. shrubber85 (2910), Wallhalben, Germany

Pitch black with a moderate head initially that quickly disappears. Nice creamy coffee and light rye flavor with a smokey finish. Light palate but I really like it that way. Excellent but rather light stout. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

Deep brownish pour with aroma of roasty malt, chocoff, slight fruit. Tastes on the dry side, with roasty malt, slight chocolate notes, and some coffee and pumpernickel bread notes. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Pours very dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma of cocoa, dark fruits, some light notes of kalamata olives. Dark chocolate is accompanied by a spicy twang, and a lasting spicy rye finish. I really enjoyed this. I was about to note that this is a great session stout - I had no clue this was 6.7% ABV. Damn, Bell’s can sure make stouts. Sammy (4003), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
