Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, rye and a touch of peat. Taste of rye, chocolate and roasted sweet malt. Smooth with low bitterness. Sweetens up a bit as it warms. The rye is a nice addition, I like this one. AndyReynolds (288), Wilder, Kentucky, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 11, 2009 Pours a rich black/brown with thin to no head. Aroma is strong with roasted malts. Notes of rye, burnt malts, dark fruits, and bitter chocolate stand out. On the palate it is chewy. The flavor really brings out the burnt malts and it finishes rather dry. I was vey impressed with this beer. Travlr (769), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 28, 2009 On draught at RFD. Deep chestnut brown with a scant white head. Aroma of rye bread with some roasted coffee beans. Very creamy body, almost chewy like a Guinness. Very subtle flavor of dark milk chocolate at first, progressing to a dark pumpernickel, then finishing with a bitter edge. A keeper. EithCubes (2164), Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2009 Long waited for them to make another batch! Bottle, batch 9370. Typical Bell’s stoutiness in the nose but this has much more pronounced coffee roast, light grain. Deep dark pour with a creamy, rocky light brown head. Creamy smooth feel (5/5 all the way), very luscious, taste is a sort of rounder Kalamazoo with a little more heft and a deeper malt complexity - lightly spicy rye, but very restrained, definitely more of an accent than the full monty. Light prunes, nuts, blackberries, and a slight herbal quality, in the vein of Jägermeister. Roast is backed way off from what was expected by the nose. Dry and tweaked lightly off of center, almost of lemon zest, with firm but low-level bitterness and a dash of coffee creamer. Beauty in subtlety. mynameisjonas (206), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2006 12oz bottle (thanks to black95tt) poured a deep dark brown with a small tan colored head. The aroma was chocolate, toffee, roast and some hops. Taste was nice and rich with a big roast flavor and a good bite from the rye malt. Not overpowering in any way just another great stout from Bell’s. Adverse2Bitter (35), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 11, 2006 A nice simple stout. Not to different than some porters. I love the color and the light brown head. Smells and taste like loaf of old fashion rye brad. Nice toasted notes on the noise and the taste buds No bitterness of any kind. Just a hint of sweetness at the end. jstraw (774), Chicago, Illinois, USA
