Typical Bell’s stoutiness in the nose but this has much more pronounced coffee roast, light grain. Deep dark pour with a creamy, rocky light brown head. Creamy smooth feel (5/5 all the way), very luscious, taste is a sort of rounder Kalamazoo with a little more heft and a deeper malt complexity - lightly spicy rye, but very restrained, definitely more of an accent than the full monty. Light prunes, nuts, blackberries, and a slight herbal quality, in the vein of Jägermeister. Roast is backed way off from what was expected by the nose. Dry and tweaked lightly off of center, almost of lemon zest, with firm but low-level bitterness and a dash of coffee creamer. Beauty in subtlety. jason (1626), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 31, 2006 Looks like a pretty nice stout. Dark black with a diminishing white head. Pretty dark indeed. Smells interesting: spicey, almost grassy, with the usual roasted malts. There’s definitely some rye bread in there! Well, or it’s my mind playing tricks on me. The palate is a little thin and CO2 abbrasive by stout standards, but with the rye character going on, it complements the flavor to some extent. The flavor is spicy, maybe it’s the rye? There’s also something grassy, the hops are at the high end for a stout, but I really do like it. There’s a slight bittersweetness to this to go along with the roasty near chocolatey flavors. There’s a lot of complexity here--at least a lot more than I expected. mynameisjonas (206), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

The aroma was chocolate, toffee, roast and some hops. Taste was nice and rich with a big roast flavor and a good bite from the rye malt. Not overpowering in any way just another great stout from Bell’s. Adverse2Bitter (35), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

I love the color and the light brown head. Smells and taste like loaf of old fashion rye brad. Nice toasted notes on the noise and the taste buds No bitterness of any kind. Just a hint of sweetness at the end. jstraw (777), Chicago, Illinois, USA
