Miver (470), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2008 Pint at the Eccentric Cafe. Poured deep black in color with a medium sized tan head. Aroma of smoked malts, chocolate, and mild roast. Tastes of moderately smoked malts, chocolate, light coffee. I’m starting to love smoked beers, and this certainly was a very solid drinkable version of that style. Great body and smooth finish. Nice. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 25, 2008 Lovely stuff. Very smooth, very black, lacy, the smokiness subtle among roasted flavours and dark chocolate. Lasting bitter aftertaste. jsquire (1911), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Mar 8, 2008 On tap at the Bell’s dinner at Brews. Lightly smoked malt in the nose with a dark caramel sweet note. Dark color with a foamy khaki head that left lots of sticky lace. Lots of roasted grain taste, dark toast, and real honest wood smoke flavor. Some chocolate and coffee poke through before the long burnt smoke finish takes over. The smoke is not so overpowering that the beer doesn’t come through. NIce use of smoke in beer. brewblackhole (1247), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Apr 20, 2008 On tap Eccentric Cafe, everyone at the table had the same comment on aroma, Easter Ham , not overpowering but very distinct, mixed in with rich roasted malts, tste went from the immediate smoked flavor to awareness of slight chocolate cakeand a subtle roasted bitter finish. What I likes about this was how it sustained that clear smoke and malt taste the entire glass, never got overly smokey bitter as many of the smoked brews do. Another excellent Bells Stout dukefan (167), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 17, 2008 Drank on tap at the Eccentric Cafe 4/11/08. Good Solid Bell’s Stout, with a slight hint of smokiness. Not overpowering, but pleasant and refreshing - in a stout kind of way.
