hopscotch (4379), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 2, 2008 Bottle… DLD’08… Lightly hazed golden ale with a mid-sized, wispy, white head. Great retention. Funky, fruity, spicy nose coughs up notes of pear, overripe banana and clove. Full-bodied with fizzy carbonation. The sweet flavor is full of spicy phenols and fruity esters, but also provides decent bitterness and alcohol warmth. Sweet, spicy finish.
BeerBaron617 (76), Novi, Michigan, USA Jul 19, 2008 First of all, props to my party store literally 3000 feet from my house that continually has seasonal brews from bells and other high end brewers in the middle of summer! This pours a lighter orange/amber color with a very fruity/oaky aroma. Upon tasting, there are subtle banana notes, with lots of malt and deep fruityness. I think I prefer this to a normal Belgian style wheat because of it’s depth of flavor. On a personal note, this is my 10th beer from Bells, and I havn’t had a bad one yet. Cheers!! darn1207 (194), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 12oz bottle. yellow gold color with a small white head. fruit, malt and bread in the aroma. fruity tastes of apple and pear. also a little vanilla with caramel malts. peppery slightly bitter finish. pretty tasty. Homer321 (25), Rockledge, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 Batch 8204. Aroma is very sweet and very classic to style. App is very clear, almost too clear. Flavor is smooth, slightly chewy. Not my favorite concotion from Larry, but fairly good. I wish it had more wheat malt. jrob_21 (824), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 6, 2008 Another bottle from Greensboro. I was not expecting something called "sparkling" to be so full bodied and malty sweet. Getting aromas of bread and yeast as well as some caramel sweetness. Flavor is pretty entertaining and spicey up front that gives way to a bit of a bitter hop finish. Some fruit and citrus in there as well. Also the aforementioned caramel malt backbone is pretty nice. DrBayern (882), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Jun 29, 2008 12 bottle, courtesy Doboy - thanks Ed, on 6/29/2008.
Aroma - Light stone fruit, lemon, honey, and some peppery spice.
Appearance - Light yellow gold, medium frothy head, but it deflates quickly, leaving sparse lace.
Flavor - Fruity and light toffee sweetness starts off, and a very spicy and pleasant bitterness sets in quickly. A slight tartness also reveals itself in the background.
Palate - Light to medium body and a fairly assertive effervescence that adds to a dry and clean mouthfeel.
Overall - Dry, refreshing, a lot of spiciness, noticeably better as it warms a bit, with the fruity flavors coming through, and the harshness subsiding.
