TheBeerLover (1013), DC Metro Area, USA Jan 25, 2006 Bell’s Double Cream Stout pours to a jet black opaque color with a thick, creamy tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is just jam packed with malt and hops. Waves of dark chocolate, sweet malt, coffee, and fragrant piney/citric hop aromas flood the nose. The palate is big and fat on this beer, with lots of big malty flavors. Really wonderful chocolatey flavors, coffee syrup flavor, and sweet malt flavors dance over the tongue, with just a hint of roast. This beer finishes with more big chocolate malt flavors up front, then ends with a balancing piney/citric smack of hop bitterness.
Wow. This beer is awesome, and pure bliss to drink. Its fresh, rich, robust, bitter sweet chocolate, and coffee flavors make this beer ideal for deserts. This beer would match well with a desert of chocolate pudding, chocolate layer cake, or as a desert itself
nbutler11 (305), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Dec 3, 2008 Pours black with a nice tan head from the bottle. More smokey than creamy, which I found strange. Raisin, pepper, and faint cocoa are also detectable. Much different than what I was anticipating, but still up to the bells standard. MegaMan2OO6 (20), Elmhurst, Illinois, USA Nov 28, 2008 (11.26.08) 12 oz. bottle: Black pour with small light brown head. Roasty aroma of coffee, milk chocolate. Creamy palate, typical of a sweet stout. Flavor is like the nose, milky, roasty, malty. pj1855 (104), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Nov 28, 2008 Pours black in color with a small tan head. Aroma or roasted coffee and chocolate. Intial malty chocolate flavor and finishes with a burn coffee taste.
Pretty tasty beer. minch25 (212), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 28, 2008 Thick near black, very light head. Roasty oily aroma. Roast bitterness. Vanilla bean? Hops come on late. Licorice. Basically similar to any other good American stout. JohnQPublic (256), Brooklyn, New York, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours Opaque black, with a thin light brown head. Nose is coffeeish, but smooth. Notes of baking chocolate, some roasty espresso. Light. Flavor is licorice and coffee with a bit of cream, sweet but roasty finish. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, but light, with light but crisp carbonation.
