Pronounced toasted malt backbone - somewhat chewy and bready -highlighted with a light smoke note and a very peaty earth character.

Fred Fest 2009 – Portland, OR
Aroma: Dark roasted coffee aroma with smoke lingering.
Appearance: Light Black in color, Clear with a thin head.
Flavor: Dark roasted flavors with a coffee flavor that was very strong. The smoked malt was there but needed to be stronger.
Palate: Dry coffee finish, with a Good Mouthfeel.
Overall: The beer was very good for the day it was average. This was a tough festival to be average at.

On Tap at teh brewpub. Deep redish brown with a small head and decent lacing. Slightly roasted smokey aroma. Fairly swet dark pitted fruits and old campfire. fairly light like a lager but some decent roasted flavors. Somewhat thin.

Tap @ Brewpub: Dark mahogany, nice head and light lacing. Nose of light smoke, sweet char and dried fruit. The flavor is chewy, light raisin and other sweetness. Some light diacetyl. Finishes a bit thin, decent mouthfeel though. A bit too shy I’m thinking.
