troopie (470), USA Nov 19, 2006 Draught pint at alehouse. Not much aroma here, perhaps it was served too cold. Blah at first, improved as the pint warmed. I tasted the barrel more than I did the beer. Excellent oaky, coffee tinged finished. This beer ended better than it began, but I can’t rave about it. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Apr 18, 2006 Tap @ Concordia - Pours a very dark black, with just the tiniest tan head. Strong oaky aroma that is immediately followed by a roasted chocolate coffee flavor Just the slitghtest hint of vanilla, and ends up finishishing like a caramel mocha. Not the greatest porter. BückDich (4525), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 9, 2005 Sampled draught at Bend Brewing Company, Bend Black, thick tan head with tan lacing. Nose of whiskey & roast, strong whiskey flavor. Has an initial hop & carbonation bite but proceeds to bludgeon you to death with an oak club soaked in jack Daniels. Finishes smooth & vanillay. This barrel aged experience only covers up the complexity, not add to it. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 8, 2005 Little dark than the regular porter with some head and good lace. The nose is chocolate and Jack Daniels. Maybe some bitter. Wow, reminds me of a whiskey and coke. Barrel aging can do a lot for a beer… but not this time.
