Commercial Description:
This is a light wheat ale brewed with 50% malted wheat and a blend of pale, carastan, and Munich malts, lightly hopped with Perle and Mt. Hood hops. It has a pronounced wheat character, best described as a "soft" maltiness, and is usually rather fruity due to the high fermentation temperature. Hefeweizen is an excellent beer to recommend to people who are new to microbrews. It is a subtle way to introduce real beer flavor.

Cloudy golden orange. Bread, citrus, cloves, caramel in the aroma. Flavors were all there, but all came off as limited. Lacked the complexity and oomph and maybe even quenching potential of the better ones. Boring.

Cloudy and hazy golden with a wonderful egg white head. Very substantial this one has staying power, unfortunately the flavor does not. Grainy toasted cereal malt flavor. A typical NW style American Wheat.

(Draft: Bend Brewing Company in Bend, OR) Sweet, fruity and lightly spicy nose is mildly aromatic, nothing too enticing, but it leads into the beer appropriately because the flavor is also pretty light and basic. Mild wheat flavor is somewhat sweet and fruity, perhaps an orange citrus fruitiness, with hardly any bitterness at all. Light bodied, kind of thin for a hefeweizen, but with enough sweetness that it doesn’t turn watery in the finish. Medium straw color, fairly cloudy in appearance, with a small white head that rapidly fades to a small rim, leaving no lacing behind. Really, just an inoffensive, light flavored beer that’s extremely easy to drink.

On Tap at the bewpub. Light hazy golden color with a thin film of white head. Spotty lacing. Very soft and faint maltiness with an expectedly nearly non-existant hop componant. For some reason it tasted a lot like the big fat lemon wedge that was stuck on the side of the glass. Unflterd chalky feel. Nothing special.

Hazy gold color, no head. Citrusy of orange (had a lemon wedge in it) with some musty malts hiding underneath. The flavor is a bit (WAY!) too husky & chalky, 2-row when it should have pilsner. Finishes artificially malty & citrusy. I don’t like this.

Cloudy gold with a light head that leaves fast. No lace. Lemons in the nose, nothing else. The flavor is destroyed by the lemons. Meh, I didn’t want lemonade.

Glowing murky yellow. Light flavors overall... good medium thickness but not much to taste.. light lemon and wheat... sweet and citrusy but not deep. Soapy nose loses this one some points.

Draft at brewery: Clear and light golden. Light on the tongue, but with a lively carbonation. Malts were light but very sweet. None of the typical clove or banana hefe aromas/flavors to be found. At least it had some nice hops, which were flowery and herbal -- very aromatic.
