BückDich (4605), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 9, 2005 Sampled draught at Bend Brewing Company, Bend
Black, light tan, nose of light roast & soy sauce flavor of more creamy mocha, licorice & chocolate with a smoky undertone. Finishes sharp, could be from the carbonation. Eh. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Mar 21, 2006 Another disappointing appearance. Dark murky brown with minimal to no head. Decent black porter, great balanced roastiness, some nice herbal hoppiness. Tasty chocolate flavor. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 25, 2005 (Draft: Bend Brewing Company in Bend, OR) Roasted coffee and very chocolaty nose doesn’t predict the flavor, as the flavor is much less chocolaty than I was expecting. Rather, it’s roasty and smoky and reminiscent of smoked bacon. Only mildly sweet, the palate is fairly dry, but the medium body is a bit light for my kind of porter. Dark brown in color with ruddy highlights. Tan head gradually fades to a ring, but not before leaving a fair amount of patchy lacing on the glass. Along with their Old Ale, this is probably the best beer I’ve tried from Bend Brewery, but it’s also the only dark beer on the menu, so go figure. Aubrey (2625), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 17, 2003 Black as all hell with a creamy, light-tan head. Roasty and sugary, coffee-like nose. Creamy and smooth texture with a little weight to it. Freshly roasted coffee notes wafted in the aroma. Flavors of milk chocolate, bitter coffee, and a lot of roast. Sweet underside -- especially up front -- but fades away behind coffee flavors and a bitterness. Slightly zingy hops on the tongue. Pretty good porter. Crit (2258), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Jun 19, 2007 Deep brown, lasting tan head.Lightly roasted nose.Medium roasted profile, somewhat bitter finish
