biermensch (64), USA Aug 21, 2007 This was difficult to rate; it’s in tha same style as Founder’s Deca? No. With that said, this delivers what it promises. As a fan of heat, I enjoyed this novelty brew for what it is. I don’t think I’d drink more than one per session, because it’s a one-note wonder, and not very drinkable. But it’s fun. Pass the chips and salsa.
iowaherkeye (1428), relocated to Santa Rosa f/Iowa, California, USA Apr 28, 2008 Growler from General Gao, thanks Colin. Clear orange amber with a small off-white head, fades to a ring before long. Aroma of jalapeños, green peppers, and a bit of caramel malts. I can tell this is gonna have some heat to it. Flavor does have a little more caramelly sweet notes, but still not enough to balance the heat from the jalapeños--it builds with every sip. Not ungodly, mind you, but still more than I want for a beer. Light to moderate carbonation with a light body. As much as I’d like to have this with spicy food, I think it’d make both the food and drink too spicy. I prefer Jaipur’s rendition of a pepper beer to this. acrdz (4489), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jan 1, 2008 Lightly hazy golden orange colored body. The nose is faintly fruity and sweet, with a mild pepper meat/fruit note, similar to bell peppers, but more of a tingly heat/peppery note when warmer. Quiet and clean up front, with some amber malts noticed before an explosion of biting pickled jalapeno peppers, almost hot, certainly peppery and sharp, with a bite on the back of the throat, a vinegary bite. One word: awesome. Really nice and clean, with a fresh, vibrant bite of the peppers and a decent kick of heat. I was craving this the next day. Illini08 (519), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Dec 21, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. This is like drinking liquid jalepenos. There is nothing subtle about the jalepeno flavor to this. Spiciness was too much for me to uncover any other underlying flavors. Mouthfeel was decent though. chrisbaar (10), Dixon, Illinois, USA Dec 14, 2007 Oooooooooooo.....one of the few beers I’ve had in my life that was hard to choke down, and I had a sampler size! Nevertheless, it’s a fun kind of novelty beer that is a fun departure from the ordinary and is something to dare your friends to try. This was on tap at the brewery in Moline. The color is clear golden with a thin, white head. The aroma is sweet and pleasant with a punch of jalapeno. The taste is deceptive, a very sweet, sugary almost honey-like sweetness upfront with a small amount of burn and then its hits you.......VERY SPICY! I’m not sure if it’s the fact that it’s in the beer but the jalapeno flavor packs a serious punch!! Not for the weak of heart or stomach. But a fun, fun beer.....just don’t order a pint of it. :)
