Good fruity malt, quite earthy plus some hints of roasted barley. A little one dimensional but nice enough. Good smoky notes in the finsh with an assertive dark fruit character. Not bad. cgarvieuk (4212), Edinburgh, Scotland

Opaque black, not much head. Tobacco and burned malts in the nose. Light palate. Some tobacco, toffee and ash in the flavor. A bit on sweet side. Ok winter session beer probably.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 1, 2009 BC, 4.8%. Mahogany with ruby edges and a dimpled, coarse-bubbled beige head going nowhere. Hot bin bag full of ash, apple peel and Allsorts aroma. Liquorice sodden soily mild with blackberry, cinders and coffee grounds. Clinging smoke, dab of mouldering leaf matter, hot choc dustings. Fine ashy refreshment, but Beowulf do better.
