MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 16, 2009 Gift from my Wisconsin hook up. Thanks Jamie. This was one of the ones I enjoyed from this brewery. Brown pour with a touch of caramel malt and some chocolate. Taste was pretty much the same as aroma. Not bad. Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Sep 2, 2009 This beer pours a dark reddish brown that I will give an 8 on the "Dark-O-Meter." A nice creamy off white head lasts a good while. Light lacing. Aroma is not big and offers fruit and chocolate with some grain. Quite a nice smooth feel. Like the aroma, flavors are not big. A nice sweet malt base with faint hops adding just a bit of bite late in the sip. It has a bit of breadiness, some grain, and a bit of fruitiness. Not really a lot of anything but it is sweet enough that it will get away with it for some. Earlier Rating: 3/31/2008 Total Score: 3.2 Dark body with lots of red highlights and a nice tan head that quickly fades. Aroma is surprisingly big with lots of malt and dark fruit. Flavor is chock full of sweet malt with toffee. It starts off with some excitement but the beer can’t maintain it. Still, its an enjoyable beer. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Aug 11, 2009 12oz twist-off bottle. Berghoff Traditional Bock. Dark brown color. Fizzy head. Aroma of toasted malts. Rich malt. Skunky hop. Drinks like a dunkel. shp555 (1678), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 8, 2009 Pours clear amber brown color with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, green apple, and roast. Flavor is caramel, roast, nutty, and a bitter earthy finish. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2009 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Nice sweet nutty and caramel aroma with a touch of hops. The flavor is sweet with a hint of dry, but a metal aftertaste like pennies dominates and ruins the good parts. WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 23, 2009 Berghoff "Traditional Bock Beer" on the label, I imagine it’s the same thing? Clear brown with a decent head, lot’s of fizzy carbonation. Aroma is nutty and sweet. Flavor is similar, light nutiness and mild sweet malts. Light bodied and fizzy on the palate. Finish is sweet and a bit syrupy. Not bad, a decent session beer. Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 19, 2009 Pours a clear brown with a thick tan-colored head. Aroma is very nutty with light malts. Flavor is a sweet hazelnut and very light malts and light spice. Body is light with light to medium carbonation. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 15, 2009 ***review from late 2006***
Poured out a copper coloured beer with lots of bubbles, small sized cap but it is creamy and tan and leaves some ropy lacing. Smells way better warmer, nice sweet malts, slightly roasted but dry, touch of hops, decent but off for a bock. Taste: Notable bitterness, soft malts, a spice that belongs in pumpkin pie when colder, I do not like the hops in here at all. Light to medium bodied, a bit tingly, good swish, sweet caramel and acceptable bitterness. Dry finish. At least Berghoff is constant with quality.
