Dark red color, longer lasting brownish head. Aroma is toasty, rather warm, with a few fruitier notes as background. Flavor is the closest thing I’ve found to a dark german bread in beer form. Goes from bready to overly sweet (more sugar than caramel) as it warms. Not quite the mouthfeel to back it up, slightly watery. Like everything I’ve tried from Berghoff, passable, yet not exciting in the least. But for the price, I can’t say I can argue with it (less than five bucks a six-pack, I’ve seen Heinecken run twice that). jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 14, 2006 From a 12 oz. twist cap brown bottle with no freshness date.
Poured a clear darkish brown with foamy head that settled into a thin, lightly sudsy lacing.
Aromas of toasted grains, caramel malts with a little fruitiness and floral hops.
Moderate carbonation overall and a crisp, smooth light bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant, but bland tasting, a light toastiness, caramel malts with traces of a powdery cocoa, subtle fruitiness and floral hops and a dryish malty finish.
An affordable bock, but overall, bland and average, I purchase this out of the singles rack, which is the only I would buy this again, I wouldn’t want a six.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 7, 2006 Dark brown, clear, off white head, nose of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and flavors are much the same. Light bitter finish. Lightly watery mouthfeel but it seems to work ok for this beer. thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 17, 2006 bottle - Pours dark brown with a moderate head that lingers for awhile. The light aroma is of caramel malts. The flavor is sweet dominated by sweet caramel malts and the body is a little on the thin side. It finishes with a mildly dry and bitter finish. It’s okay. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 29, 2006 12oz bottle pours dark brown with a short creamy offwhite head that fades quickly to a ring and laces some from there down. Aromas of caramel and a touch of chocolate. Flavor is quite malty, caramel, chocolate, and some raisin. Medium body, light carbonation, and a somewhat watery mouthfeel. Seemed more like a brown ale than a bock oddly.
