Commercial Description:
Introduced in October of 1989, the bock style far exceeded original expectations. This micro-styled bock beer has a rich and full-bodied flavor while being creamy on the palate. The nose yields a fresh, malty aroma with a hint of caramel sweetness. Hop bitterness and aftertaste balance the sweetness and maltiness. Berghoff Bock is made with Brewer's Two-Row Malt, Carapils Malt, Caramel Malt, Black Malt and domestic hops.

Dark brown, sweet brown sugar aroma. Medium bodied, soft caramel, a bit of chocolate, low bitterness. Not bad, but not a re-purchase either.

(bottle) Medium brown with nice head. Faint malt aroma. Flavor is sweetish malt but a hint of sour-musty finish (? bottle starting to go off)

Pours brown with a light tan head. Aroma of nuts malt and wet cardboard. Yep, cardboard is in the taste too. A light sweetness is there also. Not much of a bock, more of a brown ale really, but I don’t rate to style so it doesn’t matter. I rate to taste and unfortunately for this one that does matter. Thin unpleasant body. Finish is slight nutty with a metal bitterness. Not much going on in this malt sided brew. But on the plus side it was inexpensive. Ap-3 ar-3 tas-4 pal-2 ov-8

Looks and smells pretty decent. Definitely light chocolate in the aroma and first taste. A little thinnish, with a frisky, bubbly finish. A little too watery to be great.

bottle-pours mahogony amber with a small soapy/foamy off-white head. fruity aroma of red grapes, plums, olives and a sulfer note that resembles a pickle jar! some sweet cardboardy malts and some veggie notes as well with a dose of dark fruits. palate is pretty lite for a bock. long fruity and veggie finish. not good.

Pours a dark brown with traces of a slightly off white head. The aroma is light caramel and some wood. There is also a little bit of aromatic bitters. The taste is caramel and some raosted notes of coffee and chocolate. Surprisingly warming and decent. Could use a little more balance of sweetness.

Pours a thin golden-brown with whiffs of chocolate and swamp in the nose. Flavor is more toffee than chocolate, and these are introduced early in the flavor along with mild floral hops. Not a great balance between the two, but not terrible. Some molasses here as well. A final bite of astringent metal is...not good. Body is very thin and sticky.
