Commercial Description:
Introduced in October of 1989, the bock style far exceeded original expectations. This micro-styled bock beer has a rich and full-bodied flavor while being creamy on the palate. The nose yields a fresh, malty aroma with a hint of caramel sweetness. Hop bitterness and aftertaste balance the sweetness and maltiness. Berghoff Bock is made with Brewer's Two-Row Malt, Carapils Malt, Caramel Malt, Black Malt and domestic hops.

Anyone else out there from the Chicago area who remembers when The Berghoff used to do its own brewing? The beers were vibrant and tasty back then. Now the Berghoff label (brewed by J. Huber) has greatly increased its repertoire, but the beers are mainly insipid and uninteresting. This "bock" looks nice, but it’s got a fairly weak caramel aroma. It’s quite light-bodied for the style and has only a light caramel malty sweetness. The finish is non-existent, as should be the case for a macro-type brew. If you think I’m being unduly harsh, match this beer against any of the other bocks that pop up on your rating page. You’ll be glad you didn’t buy a case of this stuff.

Super dark red/black with very thin head. Dark caramel nose. Very nice roasty malt and lightly smoky flavor. Let me get out a cigar and sit out by the fire!

Nice deep red/ruby apearance, and malty aroma. This is a smooth bock, and while it is on the thin side it’s got a great malt taste, and a nice hint of hops to give it just a lil’ bite. A refreshing, and highly drinkable beer. On a side note. This beer is very similar to Huber Bock wich is brewed by the same brewery. If my memory serves me right Huber Bock is slightly darker, and slightly more hopped.

Red/Brown color with good head and decent lacing. Sweet taste with candy hints. A little thinner than I would have liked.

Dark brown with ruby highlights. Minimal malt aroma. Easy drinking, lightly malty beverage. Middle of the road and inoffensive.

For the price its not a bad beer. Has some decent maltieness, lightly sweet, nothing too complex, carmel tones and you can find some light roastedness if you realy search for it. Lightly furity hints and a decent amount of bitterness. Not too bad.

Pours deep red (deeper than the Lakefront Bock I just sampled) with just a few bubbles hinting at carbonation. Caramel, wet socks, and rotten fruit aroma. Rather thin-bodied with caramel and candy-like fruit. A bit flat. Not bad but fairly boring.

Good brown color, small tan head that faded quickly leaving little behind.Malty caramel aroma with maybe a hint of fruit but hard to say on that one, mild hops at best in the aroma.Decent flavor of malt and caramel with a decent amount of hops showing up and a good carbonation. It finishes off kind of dry,but over all it’s not that bad.Would make a good summer evening brew. Thanks to Jpdipso for sending this brew my way.
