Poured as Route 66 Red at Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket, Willowbrook, IL. Pint served a dark amber with ruby tones showing through the glass. Modest, off white head and lacing. Strong toasty malt and caramel in the aroma and flavor with enough bitterness to hold it together. Okay brew. Went well with the chicken dinner.

Pours red with a small head. Aroma is butterscotch, slight skunk, and honey. Flavor is sweet cardboardy malts, some very mild cascades, and a bitter finish. Mouthfeel is somewhat metallic and sharp, over carbonated.

12oz bottle (Rock River Red). Filtered brown-amber color. Sweet in your face caramel-butterscotch aroma. Sweet caramel flavor dominates. Relatively smooth, but semi-artificial tastes abound. An APA? It certainly isn’t trying to say it is and doesn’t stumble into that category, or even close. Nasty pungent sugar aftertaste. Not good.

Copper color with a thin white head. Light roasted malt aroma with a hint of caramel. Taste is sweet and malty but a little watered down as is the case with many Berghoff brews.
