Had this on tap at the Cafe in O’Hare while laying over for a connection to Columbus. By the way, the bartender’s hot! This was labelled Berghoff Amber and that’s what the tap handle read also. Very subtle nose of wheat with a hint of caramel and flowers. The brew is a sparkling honey with a brief flash of an off white frothy head that leaves no trace of lace. The brew is very sweet with no acidity, the finish is caramel and flowers. The light creamy body is lively, and the finish feels chalky. patrick767 (2058), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 10, 2007 bottle - Pours light amber with a medium sized head that leaves a touch of lacing. The aroma is light caramel malt. The flavor is sweet caramel malt with some decent, mild hops. I too am confused by the commercial description of an APA. To me it’s an amber. Oh well. It’s light and very easy to drink with just adequate flavor. Not bad. TechMyst (166), Fox River Grove, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 2, 2007 Hazy amber with ruby hue in appearance. Yellowish head with spotty lacing that slid down side. 1 finger head which disappears quickly. Bready/sweet malt aroma. Medium mouthfeel leaving a slick/resinous palate. Honey/butter/biscuit flavor. Full flavor and much character, not particularly in the domain that I care for, but a solid offering. After a while I get this tongue curling effect which drops the drinkability; along with the fact it bloats a little (even though the conditioning was soft.) jbuzz (664), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2007 Pours to a an orange-red color, with thin off-white head that fades by mid glass and leaves no lacing. Aroma seems to be a not too dominant blend of grassy hops and malty caramel-nut. Mouthfeel is medium full and slightly bittersweet, as the hops and malts collide. Flavor is more on the grassy hop side, and the finish likewise tends to be stale and more toward bitter, with a hint of the sweet malt at the end. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 12, 2007 As I started drinking this I was thinking a ubiquitous amber. Then I read the description, it is listed as a Pale and says it belongs in the Pales but the next sentence this beer calls itself Berghoff Amber. The brewers dont even know what to call this so I guess Red is a dumb enough name. After all that what about the beer....its an amber. Boring, very low in the hops, that annoying Huber malt, and a metallic finish. KAggie97 (2482), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 10, 2007 Tap at O’Hare, Chicago. A ho-hum amber tint and a nose of roasted malt with a bit of syrup in the nose settled into the small sample glass. The malt mellowed nicely but kept its roasted flavor as the liquid slid down my throat. The mouthfeel was nothing to shout about, but the overall experience left a nice impression. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2007 Medium slightly hazy amber with a small head. Actually a nice looking beer. Aroma is metallic malt, ever so light skunk, grains and wheats. Flavor is tasty. Sweet candied malts, light bitter hops and your typical grains. The finish was a little bitter and grassy. Still pretty decent overall.
