Commercial Description:
This deep mahogany Euro-style lager has a nice balance of malts and hops, which lend to the full-flavored body and mild aroma. It has a pleasantly malt-fruity palate, with touches of chocolate, and some hoppy bitterness coming through at the end. The dark beer was rated as "One of the Top 100 Beers in the World" by Wine Enthusiast magazine, won the Silver Medal in the 1993 Great American Beer Festival and the Silver Medal in the 2002 World Beer Championships.

(Tap) Pours brown with little head. Served way too cold. A variety of malty flavors were evident. Not much in the way of hops. Not too complex, but rather refreshing.

From a 12 oz. twist cap long neck brown bottle with no bottled/freshness date. Poured a reddish hued brown with an off-white head that settled into a thin lacing. Aromas of toasted nutty grains and caramelized chocolate malts with a very subtle fruitiness. Good carbonation, a smooth, creamy light bodied mouthfeel. Softly fruity malts with a light chocolate caramel swirl, dry toasted grains, the barest of hops presence, the crispness comes from the malts and dryish roasted malty finish. There are better Vienna beers out there, but still a decent affordable (cheap) lager beer.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with reddish highlights and a pale tan head, no real lacing. A sweet malty aroma that was surprisingly potent and upon warming I detected a faint smokiness. This beer fills the mouth with a sweetness that ends in disappointing blandness and does not real develop any complex flavors but is decent and inoffensive. A bit thin on the tongue but very quaffable. Reddish dark brown with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is a bit sour, flavor is also, just a touch. Mau be lightly infected. Little other flavor, thin and light bodied. 4 3 3 3 - Averaged with initial rating as this bottle may have been a bit off.

12oz bottle acquired in trade. Poured a deep orange, almost copper, color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roasted malts, light caramel and somewhat nutty. Tastes of roast, light chocolate, nuts, and caramel. Body on the thin and watery side.

There is a very faint malty aroma. The color is copperish with a small tan head. Slight roasty flavor at the onset, but quickly fades to a mild watery finish.
