Commercial Description:
This deep mahogany Euro-style lager has a nice balance of malts and hops, which lend to the full-flavored body and mild aroma. It has a pleasantly malt-fruity palate, with touches of chocolate, and some hoppy bitterness coming through at the end. The dark beer was rated as "One of the Top 100 Beers in the World" by Wine Enthusiast magazine, won the Silver Medal in the 1993 Great American Beer Festival and the Silver Medal in the 2002 World Beer Championships.

Pours a dark brown color. Taste is a bit watery with notes of malts and hops. An average beer.

12oz bottle acquired in trade. Poured a deep orange, almost copper, color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roasted malts, light caramel and somewhat nutty. Tastes of roast, light chocolate, nuts, and caramel. Body on the thin and watery side.

There is a very faint malty aroma. The color is copperish with a small tan head. Slight roasty flavor at the onset, but quickly fades to a mild watery finish.

A dark cinnamon colored beer with no-nonsense name. Good head but no aroma. Definate woody taste.

In the bottle. Dark beer that pours thick. A bit watery, but the taste made up for that. One of the only beers that did not have a bitter aftertaste that I’ve had. A great beer.

Reviewed as : Dark American Lager Clear brown-gold with an off-white head. Rather faint sweet malt scent. Flavor is dominated by an unpleasant burnt malt taste. Any other character the beer may have is completely disguised. A bit on the watery side.

Whoever wrote the commercial description might have been describing a different beer. And what do wine enthusiasts know about beer? Apparently not very much. If this is one of the top 100 beers in the world then .... ok, thats enough of that. This is just a nice little beer that is not great, not complex, and not really interesting. It is a pleasant drink and is pretty consistant.

Dark malt aromas at the fore, but weak, with notes of black tea and metal. Purplish amber color, small head. Under carbonated flattish palate, weak caramel malts, virtually no hops. Better than their red, but barely.
