Commercial Description:
This deep mahogany Euro-style lager has a nice balance of malts and hops, which lend to the full-flavored body and mild aroma. It has a pleasantly malt-fruity palate, with touches of chocolate, and some hoppy bitterness coming through at the end. The dark beer was rated as "One of the Top 100 Beers in the World" by Wine Enthusiast magazine, won the Silver Medal in the 1993 Great American Beer Festival and the Silver Medal in the 2002 World Beer Championships.

On tap at the brewery. Deep, amber brown color. Small, oily head. Smelled suspiciously similar to Huber Bock and most of all of the other offerings at Huber / Berghoff (same yeast used in all of their beers.) Taste is less of a Vienna and more like a watered down Dunkel. Somewhat watery. Over carbonated - way too fizzy. Oaky, mild and grainy. Heavy acid hit the palate when I was about 1/2 through the beer, causing a terrible acid burn at the back corners of my tongue.

On tap at the brewery. 3rd of 5 sampled. Decent flavor, some noticeable grassy hops. Like all their beers I tried, watery texture.

Decent vienna dark lager...but always seems a little generic, kind of watery, not such a big deal kind of drink. I still order them time to time, usually if the other selections are found wanting.

Dark mahogany brown with only a thin head. Big fruity aroma. The flavor is reminiscent of apples, but woodsy and lightly bittered. Relatively thin body.

Clear dark brown beer with a nice barleywine raisin aroma. Chalky malt and cardboard in taste. Light bodied. (July 31 at Indiana Microbrewers Festival)

Pours with a decent head, but resembles an American Dark more than a Vienna. Taste is the same. Smells like beer, slightly fruity. Nothing special, tastes of malts with little hops presence. Incredibly thin mouthfeel, though clean and nothing offensive about it.
