Commercial Description:
This deep mahogany Euro-style lager has a nice balance of malts and hops, which lend to the full-flavored body and mild aroma. It has a pleasantly malt-fruity palate, with touches of chocolate, and some hoppy bitterness coming through at the end. The dark beer was rated as "One of the Top 100 Beers in the World" by Wine Enthusiast magazine, won the Silver Medal in the 1993 Great American Beer Festival and the Silver Medal in the 2002 World Beer Championships.

this beer pours a faint clear black body, with a nice soft tiny tan head. A wonderful vanilla aroma stays around and the mouthfeel is very light. For a dark beer, this could change the minds and tastebuds of many, because its so easy to drink.

Redishh black, no head. What little taste it had was of caramel malts and very lightly hopped. For a Dark Ale its was pretty watery and insipid, now that its rated as a vienna, maybe it was ok.

Draft at the Berghoff Cafe at O’Hare. Fairly strong caramel aroma. Very dark amber or brown color with no head. Medium body with mild, smooth carbonation. Dark caramel flavor with enough hop to provide balance. The bitter builds in the mouth, and the finish heads towards dry. Nice, surprising amount of bitter in the finish. Definitely not your sticky sweet lager. Good drink in the otherwise beer waste lands of O’Hare.

Amber with medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel, smoke, bread and light hops. Malty, over carbonated, light caramel in the taste with a mild bitter astringent finish. Eh.

A local Brew here in the midwestern USA. A good lager with a hint of chocolate presentation I thought was good. Very nice on the palate. I have had iin the past and probably appreciate it more in later years.

Tasted 3/28/08. 12oz bottle. Filtered and deep amber. Thick finger of light beige head. Slight aroma. On the lighter side of medium bodied. Nice caramel malt flavor. Dry with a rather pleasant hop bitterness. Thin beer, but packs a tight effervescence and solid amount of hops. Malt side is awkward and rough. Flowing from a rather short lived bready sweetness to coffee and bittersweet chocolate(mildly) then the bland yet tingling hops. Highly carbonated, which actually accounts for some of the bitterness I claimed to be hops. Whoops. Meh...
