Two fingers of off-white head vanish quickly, without lace. Flavor: Creamy malts with a touch of caramel, quickly overtaken by significant grassy hops presence. Finishes bitter, somewhat papery. Palate: Briefly creamy on the outset, becomes overly dry on the finish. mcjay (304), Neenah, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Golden/copper color with a thin white head. Nice malty aroma but the taste is a little off balance, too hoppy. A little spice a little bitter, but not that good. kseecs16 (914), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Sep 11, 2008 This beer appears to be well overrated on the site. It should not touch the top half of Oktoberfests. It was my first Oktoberfest of the season and was very disappointing. It fails in palate, aroma and flavor. Appears Orange hued amber with visible carbonation and a thin off white head. Nice lacing. Too fizzywith a slightly stale mettalic malt character that finishes with a bit more body and a dry nutty maltiness. No hops evident. Aroma is slightly offensive adjuncty grains. | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 29, 2008 too sharp and too cloyingly sweet to be a good marzen, this offering from Berghoff surprises me with how off they were with this classic style.
Stay away. jebert (124), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 20, 2008 This fire red marzen is crowned by a foamy tan head. Aroma is caramel and malt. Creamy on the palate with a mild flavor of caramel, ginger and barley. No bitterness, this smooth seasonal pairs well with a Wisconsin brat or pastrami on rye. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 8, 2008 A decent marzen that pours a somewhat copperish colour, aromas of thrift store and a bowling alley after league night. A lighter mouthfeel and finishes with a bready taste. naivepegasus (193), USA
