Commercial Description:
Amber colored, all-malt-lager, which possesses a modest bitterness and clean aroma. Crafted in the traditional Bavarian manner and resembles the Marzen-type Oktoberfest Biers as they are served at the fall festivities in Munich. It won the Gold Medal in the 2002 World Beer Championships.

Pours orangish amber with a mostly receding, off-white head. Aroam is bready, toasted malt, buttery and crackery. Taste is malty, lightly sweet, bready, with munich malt and rich grainy flavors, although not as crackery as the Great Lakes or Bells. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Very nice Oktoberfest. Exceeded my expectations.

Bottle. Strong malt aroma but too far on the grainy side. Dark copper-orange pour, though clear, edges toward red/pink with a lacing beige head. Taste is grainy, lightly bittersweet, with malt and Spanish rice, toast and caramel with a nice earthy quality. Faint dark chocolate and toffee notes, but only when I make the mistake of placing my lips on the bottle to finish off the dregs. Potential veer off into the metallic, the artificial, but in small quantity, it’s not so bad. Crisp and relatively interesting in the mouth, if not for the slightly-off flavor. Lightish medium body is relatively well-integrated, and does indeed dry out a touch (just a touch) by the end, but the prevailing note here is of staleness. Can’t really crush this, but still, it’s not as good as the Bell’s I just had.

One of their better efforts. Nice reddish amber. lots of head and lace. an all malt beer. glad they did that. Got a nice slightly dry roastiness. Good body, light hops. slightly sweet.. good session beer. good finish. Got this at Bodega Brew Pub downtown La Crosse, WI USA.

Deep golden color, short head, no lacing. Sweet malty aroma, a little dusty (a bit of hops here?). Taste is on the fizzy side and sweet caramel, but then it quiets down and becomes pleasant. Not special, but OK. Will probably give you a headache if you drink it all night long.

Bottle - nice malty aroma with a touch of Euro-funkiness that is common to the style. Standard Oktoberfest appearance. Deep amber body and a beige head. Flavor is malty and somewhat bready. Mouthfeel is slightly sharp despite a lot of carbonation. This one is decent. No threat to the great German Oktoberfests, but decent.

12oz. Bottle Berghoff’s Oktoberfest poured a super clear dark orange. Sitting up top was a 1+ finger white micro-bubbled head That faded into a top coat. Looks very good. Smell is ok. Smells of doughy malt. There some chalk dust in there as well. It’s kind of strange. A little weaker than I’d like. So far everythings a little above average but as soon as I drink this it all goes downhill. There isn’t hardy any of the doughy/malty flavor that is in the smell. It is very faint with no sweetness and a harsh taste on the swallow. Mouthfeel is on the light side. Moderate carbonation. A little thin. Drinkability isn’t to good. The taste holds back the drinkability on this on. Sampled 10/24/06

12oz bottle. Poured a medium and slightly hazy amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of toasted malts, caramel, and nuts. Toasted nuts. Tastes on the thin and weak side; toasted malts, light bread and nutty. Metalic finish. Thin body.

Definitely the best in the Fall 2006 Berghoff Sampler Pack. Nice Amber pour with decent head. Malts and toffee on the tongue. Clean mouthfeel. Would drink again, but would not buy the sampler pack again.
