The aroma and flavor are improved but the watery palate and metallic taste are still here. It actually gets worse the more you drink it. DrnkMcDermott (1861), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 7, 2007 12 oz. bottle, It’s a $5 sixer sale from Sam’s on Clybourn, and I don’t mind stocking up cheap lawnmowers in the summer. A nice beer smell as soon as I twist the cap. Widens to include a surprise whiff of hops in the glass. And here’s another surprise: it actually looks like a pale ale when poured: coppery orange body, stiff eggshell colored head. And the taste is actually pretty good. A nice hop bill with some cirus, pepper and a touch of pine. Hops actually overpower a slightly lessened caramel malt base. Unfortunately for the brewer, that’s not enough to compete in a field dominated by the likes of Alpha King and Sierra Nevada. So I’ll call this "good" and have some out on a hot day like today. mjg74 (2000), La Mesa, California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 29, 2007 Bottled from Whole Foods. Light brownish color upon pouring. Sweet fruity aroma with a little malt. Taste is sort of like a bitter more than an APA. Not a good one though. 17thfloor (1502), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 22, 2007 Lighter amber pour with nice white fluffy head. Malty aroma. Little to no carbonation. Great big hop flavor with carmal malt finish. Would be much better if the carbonation was stronger. Pretty decent for what it is. Could be excellent with some better yeast/sugar. mikeben (344), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 15, 2007 I usually hate this style but this like Bass is mild and tasty. A little hint of bitter but mostly roasted flavors take center stage. A little carmel. Berghoff’s are so underrated. theisti (1685), Leawood, Kansas, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 13, 2007 Medium clean amber with a small white head. Aroma is light malts, caramel, and sweet hops. Flavor was candied malts, light hops. Has a sweet dry bitterness in the finish. Overall pretty decent. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 10, 2007 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear medium gold color. Head was thin, white, and rapidly reduced into a thin film. Lacing was decent. Ahhh, there’s that familiar unpleasant fruity Berghoff aroma of cherry and grape that seems to haunt nearly all of their beers. There is a bit of malty caramel mixed in there too. Dry and bitter on the tongue. Flavor is dominated by astringent grassy hops. Not good.
