| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 28, 2006 Bottle thanks to OldGrowth: Pours a clear orange copper with a frothy, sticky, clumpy-lacing, off-white head. Sweet toasted crystal malty aroma has some earthy hoppy notes. Starts with a semi-sweet earthy caramel flavor revealing more citrusy bittering hops toward a crisp bittersweet noble hoppy finish. A decent winter brew. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA

This one’s dark and coppery with a very thin ring of white bubbles. Smells appley with some hints of orange juice. Taste is very caramelly with some strange nutty elements on the finish. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 5, 2003 22 oz bottle. Nearly opaque reddish-brown, large off-white head. Strong well-balanced odor of citrusy hops and caramel malts, quite lovely. Flavor very interesting, woody, malty and musty, like UnionMade I'd say its in Old Ale territory, though my knowledge of the style isn't vast. Light sweetness, relatively dry most of the way through, light bitterness at the end, a bit on the thin side. Good, not great, but worth trying a 2nd time I think. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 8, 2004 2004 bottle. Pours a light orangish-yellow, with some bright hints of burnished gold in there. Light beige head, clear appearance. Aroma is wonderfully fruity, lightly spicy (hot cinnamon). Very estery with a dose of mild bready malt on the end. Flavor begins well enough, with a light hops flavor (papery, lightly floral and bitter). Some dry caramel malting along the way, with more of a strange zesty spice. However, this beer went horribly flat and watery quickly, which did not help the papery, dry, astringent nature of it. Hops dry the beer out excessively and though it does not get overly bitter, it just tastes stale and like chewing on paper. A dose of fruity esters, a touch of alcohol on the finish. Huge light fruit/flowery hops nose with a touch of spice. Full mouthfeel, slightly bitter turns to slightly sweet in the finish. A great winter session brew.
