The flavor is the same all burnt dry expresso. Good strong and rich but all too one dimensional. I am a big fan of this brewery and this is a good medium bodied porter but it is too satisfied with the coffee flavor. I would have liked to taste more hop and more complication in the palate. Good but not great. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 13, 2006 Dark reddish brown body (black) with a large tan head. Aroma is roasted coffee and a hint of chocolate. Flavor is the same, a decent porter I guess. The coffee quality couldn’t even come remotely close to matching Peche Mortel. A solid offering, but nothing to write home about. weeare138 (936), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 6, 2006 Appears black with a light tan head that slowly fades. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of light coffee with some lactose sugar standing out with that creamy aroma.
Taste is of the same aromas with a pleasant sweet, sugary, coffee enhanced flavor.
Mouthfeel is slightly thin with the bitterness winning out over the creamy coffee richness. hopdog (5611), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured a medium and clear brownish color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of coffee grounds, lactose, and some chocolate. Tastes of lighter coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. sarah3961 (29), allston, Massachusetts, USA

I didn’t find the aroma to be overwhelmingly coffee- but the aftertaste definitely is. I would drink this one again. Some sweet caramel-like undertones. beerbill (1973), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Bottle. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a light mocha colored head. Aroma is overwhelmingly coffee. Flavor is less dominated by the coffee, but still very much in the forefront. Strong bitterness, which I guess comes from the beans. Also some roasted malt flavors present. Chewy mouthfeel. I wonder if they make a decaf version?! howie (549), DeForest, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 16, 2005 Coffee extract? Well maybe that’s the way to go as my notes say "lots of fresh coffee, holy shit!" This was a great drinkable porter with heavy coffee aroma and flavor. Nice! tronraner (1934), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 7, 2005 Bottle. Pours deep ruby-black with khaki head. A crisp coffee aroma dominates, with some sweet malt and wood. The flavor is light malt, quite a bit of earthy hops, coffee, brown sugar, and semi-sweet chocolate. I actually like this quite a bit... good for casual drinking. Of course, I really like coffee, too.
