Draught @ GBBF 2005: Brown/red coloured. Light brown head. Light coffeish, sweet and malty aroma. Flavour is grainy, chocolatish, malty and sweet. Dry coffeish and sweet bitter in the end.

Cask at GBBF Very dark brown. Coffee and roasted malt on nose, more chocolate than coffee really, not a big fan of this.

Pours a rich dark, nearly opaque brown with a frothy tan head with nice thin lacing. Aroma is nicely malty, roasty, and sweet with good dark chocolatey bitter coffee. Starts with sweet caramel and chocolate malts nicely balanced with a semi-dry bitter coffee flavor. Kinda like Founders Breakfast Stout’s little brother.

Bottle, bomber: Deep dark brown, almost opaque although some light does find its way through, poured a smaller tan head. Aromas of light coffee, smoke, and roasted malts. Flavor shows even more coffee than the nose, roasted malts in the background, somel ight hop notes which fade quickly.

Bottle. Mondial de la Bière 2005. Deep brown color with ruby reflection but thin brown head. Smoked roasted malt and torrified coffee. Taste of torrified coffee and roasted malt but the texture was a little watery.

(Rating #183)

Beautiful looking, absolute dark brown with sticky nitro-like head. Rummy oatmeal nose with plenty of raisins, but the airy malts give a very powdery feeling, floury rather than rich and chocolatey (this is from the nose mind you!). It gets confirmed in mouth where it is even less characterful. Rum soaked alcohol and flour mingle around insufficient roasted malts. Sweet powdery palate, watery texture, average example without much coffee at all.

Bottle: Pours a dark brown with rich, thick and lasting tan head. Rich malt with slight coffee aroma. Medium mouthfeel, on the thin side for a porter. Finishes dry with a good hop flavor and slight bitterness. Nice porter, a very drinkable beer.
