Pours a fairly thin dark brown with white head. Nice aroma of smokey malts- fairly originial in the scent. Sweet flavor with dark chocolate present. A little one-dimensional so the flavor doesn’t last as long as a really good porter. Not bad for 4 buck though.

Nicely roasted, bitterswet chocolate aroma. Deep crimson in color with an off-white head. A bit thin and watery. A light chocolate in the flavor, some bitterness and waves of metallic cough syrup.

Roasty and dry. Quite bitter, mostly from roasted grains. Hops are very subdued, but certainly there. Coffee and hints of chocolate. Somewhat acidic and tannic, leading to a slight harshness. Medium bodied. Slightly high carbonation for the style. Despite a few moderate imperfections, this is right where a porter should be.

22 oz bottle, via jjpm74 (I think). Pours a clear dark brown with a foamy two finger head that settled to a thin film quickly. Lots of chocolate malt in the aroma with lighter roast and coffee notes. Fairly dry smelling with some light hoppiness. Flavor is similar to aroma, more chocolate malt than roast, but a little huskiness too. Fairly dry and chalky. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied with fizzy carbonation, more watery in texture than anything else. Overall, a decent Porter, nothing standout, but drinkable.

22-oz bottle from jjpm74. Pours dark brown, molasses like, with a tiny frothy tan head, some lined lacing. Aroma is caramel medium roasted malt (cookie) and toast, yeast (dark warm bread) with some chocolate notes. Medium bitterness, similar to a black coffee bite, moderate acidity that scorches the tongue, faint sweet caramel malt, near burnt toast, finish is acidic and fizzy. Dark and medium bodied, dry and fizzy, scorching palate.

22oz bottle. This is a great western mass brewery. Steel Rail is their flagship beer, but (IMHO) this porter is the best. The pour is jet black as always into my "can’t get enough of that duff" Homer Simpson mug. The smell through the half inch creaming head is chocolate covered hops. The taste is cold bittersweet chocolate with a creamy rich mouth feel. This blend of flavors sweetens as it warms. YUMMY! I can not sense the 6.2% alcohol at all. BBC was my first micro brew back in the dorms and these 22oz bottles remind me of countless good times.

Bottle: Nearly black in color, large beige foamy head, sticky lacing.   Chocolate malt nose, slightly roasty, slight milk sugar.   Smooth malt flavor, roasty but not burnt, fairly sweet, with a soft hop background.   It is also very clean.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Lingering roasted malts, remains semi-sweet with a touch of lactose.   Impressed!   Thanks jjpm74!
