Commercial Description:
A dark rich creamy ale. This is our version of this classic stout style. With its dense black color and velvety texture, our stout's flavor hints of chocolate liquorice and coffee. This ale is truly a meal in a glass.

Thanks to firemoose415 for sharing. Very nice beer. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, molasses. Pours a healthy black with a thin creamy head. Body is well-balanced. Taste of chocolate, licorice, and some alcohol. Great beer.

Pours a dark black with a good head. The aroma is anise and chocolate with a bit of alcohol. The flavor comes across as thin and a little metallic. Not back, but needs a little more fullness in the malt.

bottle. pours an impressive solid black with a good sized tan head. aroma is figs, some wet coffee filters, raisin, and some molasses and caramel. grape, raisin, dates, figs, liquorice, chocolate and caramel flavors. a bit dusty with a hint of oxidation. a fun beer that has a better finish than initial taste. lingering flavors of coffee and plums with brown sugar, pancakes and syrup with chocolate chips. mouthfelel is a bit thin, but i like this none the less for it. a bit of fudge is here once this warms, but a bit more paper and dust come with it. bready, and rich and good despite a couple of minor "flaws"

22oz bottle via trade with 46er3498 - Thanks Tom! - Pours black with a pretty nice tan head that stays well and looks creamy as it laces the sides of the snifter. Nice aroma of chocolate, caramel and light citrus hops with roasted malts. Flavor is caramel, light chocolate, big roast, and some light smoke with a definite hop presence as well that is particularly noticable on the finish. Creamy palate with adequate carbonation and full body.. Pretty nice overall.. I enjoyed it..

GABF 2006 post-party. The beer pours to a dark ruby brown body with a lasting creamy light brown head. The aroma is barleywineish. WTF? The flavor is chocolatey barleywine. Hot creamy palate.

Pitch black pour with a thin creamy dark tan ring. Aroma is roasty and chocolatey. Very smooth silky body. Quite easy to drink. Nice.

Pours a deep brown, almost opaque, with a thin tan head that retreats quickly. Aroma is inviting: deep rich caramel malts with a hint of smokiness and some slight hops. In the mouth, there’s an unwelcome sour note up front that gives way to more standard malty/smoky/coffee/chocolate IS flavors. Finishes a little sweet, but overall, pretty nice, if slightly watery. It wasn’t velvety for me, more thin and with a tad much carbonation. Decent brew.

This beer was so-so for me. It pours a glossy black with a thin texture. The head rises quickly and is a caramel light brown color. The smell is full of roasted nuts and bitter chocolate. The body is very light on the tongue, not at all what I expected, almost a vinegar thinness. The taste is mostly bitter chocolate, some coffee notes, and a hint of licorice. There is a slight hop taste, but very litter bitterness, and the malts seem weak and flat tasting. Not bad flavor but it really doesn’t do much in the mouth. Could be labelled a porter.
