Aroma was silky chocolate and some malts. Kind of like that french silk chocolate on the village inn cakes. Good malt and smooth chocolate flavors. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA

Aroma is low key cocoa and chocolate. Dark brown to black with a thumb thick tan head. Fore is more chocolate and cocoa, roasty with brown ale like nutty notes, dark fruits and a tinge of vanilla, but overall this could be a more intense flavor experience than it is. Flavors are complex, malty and smooth. A bit of coffee, roasted nuts, chocolate along with oak/earthy elements as well. The aging in a Jack Daniel’s barrel adds character and complexity. Very nice. boto (1345), Granby, Connecticut, USA

It was a version aged in Jack Daniels Barrels. This pours a very dark brown, almost black color. There was a little bit of a tan head on it. The aroma was slightly malty sweet and roasty, with agood amount of the bourbon managing to come through. The taste was almost silky. Nice, rich flavors of chocolate malts with a decent amount of the bourbon taste coming through. A very nice beer. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 14, 2006 I wouldn’t exactly call this imperial but whatever. Black but nowhere near motor oil pour with a large head. Could easily pass for a porter. Aroma is dark chocolates with coffee and licorice, hint of roast. Flavor is the same. Not that heavy to drink, medium bodied... thin for the style. There are some hops here, not enough to make it bitter like Yeti or the Tsar/Tzar/Czar/Csar (Pick one) but enough there to notice. But then again... I can notice the hops in Sam Adams Lager too. Whatever. To me this is a stout. fbennett (293), Lowell, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 23, 2006 This beer pours a black glossy color, it leaves a small tan head that disappates very quickly. The smell is chocolate, blackberries, maple syrup and a lingering smell of pepper and alcohal. As I taste this beer chocolate def comes alive on my palate, this beer explodes with silky smooth fruity, maple syrup, and chocolate essence with an after taste of vanilla and pepper. This beer just sits on the palate making it a perfect winter time brew. I would pair this beer with nothing, almost port like in quality. But if I was eating a double chocolate cake, or having a chocolate souffle I wouldn’t be upset ;-)
